Responsibilities Teach several sections of ELA, English courses for middle school students in grades 6-8. Develop lesson plans and curricula based on the needs of individual students. Utilize diverse instructional strategies to teach students both in small groups and one‑on‑one settings. Assume a share of supervisory responsibilities expected of all faculty members. Collaborate with departmental colleagues on curriculum design and development. Provide updates to parents about student progress, via both written reports and in‑person conferences. Design, administer, and assess exams to measure student achievement and growth. Make use of technological resources, including the school’s online learning management site for classes. Hold students accountable for standards of behavior. Work with others in the school community to support each student’s emotional well‑being. Serve as an advisor for a group of students, offering support, mentorship, and guidance to help them thrive academically and personally. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or related field required. Master’s degree strongly preferred. At least 5 years of English teaching experience. Previous experience working with middle school students. Ability to teach the full range of middle school English courses. Experience and comfort with student‑centered pedagogy and the integration of technology. No teaching license or credential is required. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion practices. Detail‑oriented and resilient. Additional Desired Qualities A desire to be involved in extra‑curricular activities as well as the broader school community. Ability to teach multiple subjects preferred, but not required. Experience working in independent schools preferred, but not required.
