Working Shop Manager AtoZ Quality Fencing is hiring a dependable, hands‑on working shop manager for our Hartford, Wisconsin location. The role is a leadership position that requires keeping the shop organized, operating equipment safely, preparing materials for crews, managing inventory, and leading a shop assistant. About the Role The Working Shop Manager is responsible for ensuring daily shop operations run smoothly. This includes preparing fencing materials, staging orders for upcoming jobs, loading and unloading trucks, tracking inventory, and making sure tools, materials, equipment, and vehicles are ready for field crews. Unlike a desk‑only management position, the manager will work hands‑on while setting the pace, assigning priorities, and maintaining a clean, safe, and productive work environment. Responsibilities Operate CNC equipment, saws, forklifts, and other shop machinery safely and efficiently. Load and unload trucks using a forklift. Pull, organize, and stage materials for upcoming fence installation jobs. Maintain accurate inventory and help track shop materials. Support light manufacturing and preparation of fencing materials. Perform light maintenance on shop equipment and company vehicles. Lead, direct, and support a shop assistant throughout the workday. Communicate material, equipment, and scheduling needs to leadership and field crews. Keep the shop clean, organized, safe, and running efficiently. Identify material shortages, equipment issues, and workflow problems before they slow crews down. Qualifications Previous experience in a shop, manufacturing, warehouse, construction, fencing, or similar hands‑on environment is preferred. Ability to safely operate forklifts and shop equipment. Strong organization skills and the ability to keep materials and work areas structured. Mechanical aptitude and basic maintenance knowledge. Ability to work independently, stay on task, and take ownership of daily shop priorities. Leadership ability and willingness to direct at least one shop assistant. Welding experience is a strong plus. Valid driver’s license preferred. Requirements Must be able to pass a drug screening.
