About the Department of Neurology

Departmentof Neurology is comprised of faculty representing a wide rangeof specialties in adult and pediatric neurology with a focus ondelivering outstanding care to the community. The neurology facultyare also members of the MulvaClinic for the Neurosciences, a unique institute consisting offaculty in the Departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery, andPsychiatry conducting world class translational and clinicalneuroscience research across The University of Texas atAustin.

About the AcademicNeurologist/Neuromuscular Medicine Position

The Department of Neurology at The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School is recruiting two full-time academic neurologists to develop a comprehensive program in neuromuscular medicine. The candidates must be board-certified or board-eligible in neurology and have completed a fellowship with a focus on neuromuscular medicine.

The ideal candidate will have requisite skills in diagnosing andtreating patients with neuromuscular disorders. We seek individualswith excellent clinical skills, a passion for education, andpotential for scholarly contributions to join a dynamic departmentin an innovative and growing medical school. The individual shouldhave interest in developing an ambitious neuromuscular practice atUT Health Austin, the clinical practice of Dell Medical School,with intention to become a local and regional referral center witha national impact. Opportunities abound for collaborative researchwithin Dell Med and departments throughout The University of Texasat Austin.

Essential Functions:

• Serve as a clinical content expert on adult neuromuscular disorders for Dell Medical School
• Participate in strategic planning and other efforts directlytied to the development and growth of a new comprehensiveneuromuscular disorders program as well as a new Dell Med basedgeneral diagnostic neurology clinics
• Develop partnerships with referring physicians, hospitals, andancillary providers in Austin and Central Texas
• Assist in the creation of a data and evaluation infrastructurefor regularly assessing the clinical quality and cost outcomes forpatients
• Participate in the development and implementation ofUndergraduate and Graduate Medical Education curricula related to evaluation and management of common general neurology issues with a focus on neuromuscular disorders
• Train and mentor medical students and residents on new modelsof care and clinical practice
• Develop and foster an atmosphere of scientific and academicinquiry in conjunction with trainees and researchers within the multidisciplinary team
• Collaborate with other schools at The University of Texas atAustin on multidisciplinary, value-based care models
• Actively participate in the academic department by all requireddepartmental policies

Qualifications

Required:

• Current Board certification by the American Board of Psychiatryand Neurology (or board eligible if within two years ofresidency)
• Fellowship training with a concentration on neuromuscularmedicine
• Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Texas(or the ability to obtain prior to appointment)
• Ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary academicenvironment
• Outstanding clinical teaching skills
• Innovative self-starter with a commitment to excellence
• Excellent communication, problem solving, and organizationalskills
• Eligible for appointment as an Assistant or Associate orProfessor rank in the Department of Neurology, Dell Medical School,at UT Austin
