Child Support Specialist 1

Nature of Work Under close supervision, a caseworker performs entry‑level Child Support Enforcement work. The role includes processing cases, developing case files, issuing initial notices to non‑custodial parents, locating parents and assets, calculating child support formulas, researching legal resources, and preparing correspondence for the BCSE Attorney. The position evolves into independent caseload management and requires monthly evaluation and progress monitoring by supervisory staff. This posting is for a Caseworker. Responsibilities Process child support cases through location, case development, and initial notice to non‑custodial parents. Locate parents, assets, and sources of income. Calculate child support using the state formula. Research legal statutes, court opinions, rules, and regulations. Review public documents and interview customers or agencies for case information. Prepare case files for the BCSE Attorney. Respond to customer service inquiries and resolve less complex case issues. Compose routine correspondence while maintaining confidentiality. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Or successful completion of a paralegal or legal secretarial training program may substitute for two (2) years of the required training. Or full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid experience in a legal setting that required performing legal research, reading and interpreting laws, preparing legal documents, and assisting in the preparation and assessment of case files under an attorney’s supervision. Or experience in debt collections, credit investigations, criminal investigations, law enforcement, accounting, or auditing. Or experience as an Economic Service Worker or Family Support Specialist. Or any combination thereof may substitute for the required training at a rate of one (1) year of experience for every thirty (30) semester hours of training. Special requirement: must have a valid driver’s license and availability of a vehicle for continuous use. Other Information Probationary period is twelve (12) months. Full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid professional experience as a Child Support Specialist Trainee may substitute for required training and experience. Located in Lewis County.
