Director, Human Resources - Southampton Hospital

Job Title: Director, Human Resources – Southampton Hospital Job Number: 2601863 Position Summary The Director of Human Resources for Stony Brook Southampton Hospital (SBSH) leads all HR functions, aligning strategies with the hospital’s mission and vision. The role serves as a consultant for managers and senior leaders, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, policies, and collective bargaining agreements. Core Responsibilities Advise hospital executives on HR matters and lead HR staff to execute programs effectively. Draft and manage the department budget, allocating resources for recruitment, training, and employee recognition. Partner with IT and StaffCo to implement and update HRIS systems, maximizing automation across recruitment, onboarding, payroll, benefits, time and attendance, and performance management. Collaborate with leadership to align HR strategies with hospital objectives, ensuring workforce planning and talent management meet evolving needs. Oversee talent acquisition, retention, succession planning, and competitive compensation practices. Define and monitor key performance indicators for HR functions, implementing systems to improve employee performance. Develop and sustain employee engagement programs, reward and recognition initiatives, and a diverse, inclusive environment. Administer collective bargaining agreements, manage union relations, and resolve employee grievances, mediations, and arbitrations. Lead training and development programs for leaders, managers, and staff. Required Experience and Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience (minimum 11 years). At least eight years of progressively responsible HR experience. In-depth knowledge of talent management, compensation, benefits, wellness, performance management, rewards & recognition, learning & development, compliance, employee and labor relations, and organizational development. Proven leadership experience with an HR team/department. Strong strategic planning, implementation, and data‑driven decision‑making skills. Excellent verbal and written communication, leadership, interpersonal, conflict‑resolution, organizational, time‑management, and multi‑project management skills. Preferred Experience and Qualifications SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM‑SCP) credential. Healthcare HR experience. Physical Demands Prolonged periods of sitting and computer work. Ability to lift up to 15 pounds at times. Additional Information Travel to other locations may be required to support operational needs.
