Pour Finisher

POSITION SUMMARY The primary purpose of this position is to smooth and finish surfaces of poured concrete, such as floors, walkways, sidewalks, roads, or curbs using a variety of hand and power tools. One will align forms for sidewalks, curbs, and gutters, patch voids, and use saws to cut expansion joints. The Concrete Pour Finisher must have the ability and flexibility to work varying shifts and long hours (8-12 hours). Weekend work and extra hours occur according to production needs and at the discretion of the Supervisor. Specific Responsibilities Signals concrete truck driver to position vehicle to facilitate pouring concrete. Moves discharge chute of truck to direct concrete into forms. Spreads concrete into inaccessible sections of forms with rake or shovel. Levels concrete to specified depth and workable consistency with hand held screen and floats to bring water to surface and produce soft topping. Smooths and shapes surfaces of freshly poured concrete. Finishes concrete surfaces, and wets and rubs concrete with abrasive stone to finish. Removes rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces and patches holes with fresh concrete or epoxy compound. Molds expansion joints and edges. Sprinkles colored stone chips, powdered steel, or coloring powder on concrete to produce prescribed finish. Produces rough concrete surface with broom. Mixes cement with hoe or concrete-mixing machine. Directs subgrade work, mixing of concrete, and setting of forms. Breaks up and repairs old concrete surfaces. Operates all equipment and tools required to do each job which may include cement mixing machines, power trowels, small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment, and other instruments. Maintains equipment and tools to ensure long lasting use. Responsible and accountable for incumbent’s own personal safety. Responsible and accountable for the safety of all co-workers and any others incumbent encounters. Authorized and obligated to stop work on any task or series of tasks whenever an unsafe condition or situation is anticipated or is observed. Complies with all applicable laws, regulations and Company policies and procedures, and is subject to appropriate disciplinary action (including dismissal) for failure to do so. Reports all violations of applicable laws, regulations or Company policies and procedures promptly, and is subject to appropriate disciplinary action (including dismissal) for failure to do so. Performs other related duties as may be assigned or requested by immediate supervision (such as certification training, safety training, procedure review, etc.). Position Requirements Be able to work in constant change in weather and site conditions Be able to lift, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, couch, crawl and reach to preform everyday job task A Minimum of three years of experience finishing concrete structures, pier foundations, steel forming systems and pouring concrete is request. A high school diploma or GED is preferred. Physical/Mental Requirements The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation. The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This may include hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, or other equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done. The incumbent must possess the ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident and as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel.
