The Professional Land Surveyor provides technical leadership, supervises survey personnel, manages project deliverables, and supports clients throughout all phases of a project. This position ensures surveys are completed accurately, safely, on schedule, and in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and professional standards. The Professional Land Surveyor provides technical leadership, supervises survey personnel, manages project deliverables, and supports clients throughout all phases of a project. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, perform, and oversee boundary, topographic, construction, as-built, and control surveys.
- Establish property boundaries, horizontal and vertical control, and reference points using modern surveying equipment and technology.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret field data to produce accurate survey deliverables.
- Prepare, review, and certify survey plats, maps, legal descriptions, and technical reports.
- Conduct deed, title, and public records research to determine property ownership and boundary information.
- Coordinate and supervise field survey crews and office personnel.
- Review engineering plans and construction documents to support project execution.
- Perform construction layout and staking activities to ensure compliance with project specifications.
- Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, and cost estimates for surveying services.
- Monitor project progress, budgets, and schedules to ensure timely completion.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local surveying regulations, professional standards, and company quality procedures.
- Maintain effective communication with clients, engineers, architects, contractors, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders.
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and training to survey staff.
- Support business development efforts through client interaction and proposal preparation.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and quality assurance records.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and qualifying experience.
- Current Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license in the applicable state.
- Thorough knowledge of surveying principles, boundary law, construction staking, and land records research.
- Proficiency with GPS/GNSS equipment, robotic total stations, digital levels, data collectors, and unmanned aerial systems (UAS) is a plus.
- Experience using survey processing and CAD software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Carlson Survey, Trimble Business Center, or similar applications.
- Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines and budget objectives.
- Experience supporting engineering, transportation, utility, industrial, municipal, or land development projects.
- Project management experience with responsibility for budgets, scheduling, and client relationships.
- Knowledge of state and local land surveying regulations and standards.
- FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot certification is desirable for organizations utilizing drone-based surveying.
