Position Summary

The Primary Care Physician diagnoses and treats diseases and injuries of human internal organ systems and delivers preventive and therapeutic treatment of primary care needs, including chronic disease management of patients through routine physical examinations, testing, and non-invasive treatment. This includes strong communication with fellow team members to ensure the expectations of Patient Aligned Care Team metrics are met.

Per Diem to cover PTO or sick leave.

Core Responsibilities

• Actively diagnose and treat veterans.
• Examine patients for symptoms of organic or congenital disorders, determine nature and extent of injury or disorder, and perform comprehensive physical examinations.
• Develop and implement patient management plans and assist in provision of continuity of care.
• Order and perform diagnostic tests.
• Prescribe medication and recommend dietary and activity programs as indicated by diagnosis.
• Counsel patients on the use of prescription medications, educate patients, assess mental health issues, and provide routine health maintenance.
• Evaluate patients' records from medical providers outside the VA and work with these patients utilizing rules set forth by the VA for co‑managed care.
• Complete any and all clinical reminders “due” at the time of each patient visit.
• Complete the documentation of the medical record within 24 hours of a patient encounter.
• Solicit medical management consult or input when appropriate.
• Comply with all VA guidelines regarding appropriate and timely response to all patient requests, alerts and notifications, consults, orders, lab results, and diagnostic studies.
• Comply with the VA formulary process and consult protocols.
• Act as a collaborative physician to mid‑levels where appropriate and needed.
• Comply with all VA guidelines regarding timely clinical documentation, including the completion of all encounters by close of business.
• Address the clinical needs of all walk‑in/triage/urgent care patients.
• Comply with all VA and company training requirements.
• Comply with VA requirements related to women’s health certification and competencies, as well as any elements needed for maintenance of such certification.
• Fulfill compliance requirements of the Office of Inspector General (OIG), Joint Commission (JC), Environment of Care (EOC) oversight, lab compliance, and other related items.
• Remain focused on achieving excellent clinical outcomes through the specified VA guidelines.
• Provide excellent customer service to each veteran, both in person and over the phone, as well as to fellow colleagues and clinic visitors.
• Participate in the clinic’s outreach events to help support the clinic’s enrollment initiatives.
• Support patient enrollment and retention by providing guidance, when necessary, regarding scheduling, follow‑up visits or nurse visits.
• Embrace and support new initiatives, whether clinical or operational, and execute on key strategic initiatives that drive the success of the Valor business.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of clinical medical practice; government healthcare environment preferred; specific requirements may vary based on individual VA contract.
• Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine degree.
• Board certified in family practice or internal medicine.
• Credentialed and remain in good standing through the Veterans Health Administration (VA).
• Maintain a valid, unrestricted license in the state of desired employment, or in any U.S. state or territory, as required by VA contractual obligations.
• Current certification in Basic Life Support (renewed as specified, e.g., AHA valid for two years) and ACLS as specified by individual VAMC contract.
• Current, unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English.
• Excellent computer skills.
• Energetic and optimistic demeanor.
• Strong service mentality and focus on achieving all aspects of defined service standards.
• Recognized as a safety sensitive position.
