Import Specialist

Overview Brief Description: Why this role is so special… This role is responsible for processing import transactions, providing and maintaining effective customer service, and assisting with other duties as needed. We are seeking an experienced Import Specialist with a strong background in pharmaceutical imports and other special commodities requiring PGA handling. The ideal candidate is highly knowledgeable in FDA regulations and DEA compliance requirements, with hands‑on experience handling controlled substances and temperature‑sensitive shipments. This role requires a solid understanding of U.S. Customs regulations, tariff classification, and government agency filings, along with the ability to manage time‑critical and compliance‑driven entries with precision. The right candidate will be proactive, energetic, and passionate about solving problems in the logistics industry. Responsibilities Receive, review, and process import documentation from overseas agents/customers. Handle bookings from overseas agents and coordinate final‑mile deliveries at the destination. Maintain knowledge of various transportation modes including air freight, LCL, FCL, and domestic trucking and rail movements. Understand agent fees and pricing per client to process invoices accurately and timely. Update shipment statuses, issue arrival notices, and obtain entry documents for customs clearance. Prepare customs entries for in‑house brokerage clients. Arrange freight release with steamship lines and confirm cargo availability. Cooperate with airline ground handlers to avoid storage by discussing airfreight availability. Respond promptly to customer requests on shipment status by phone or email. Open and manage import files from A to Z. Adhere to all domestic and international shipping regulations. Perform any other related tasks as required or assigned by supervisor or manager. Qualifications High School diploma required; Associate degree or higher preferred. Minimum of 2 years of freight forwarding experience. Proficiency in Cargo Wise, Windows, and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel. Pro‑active attitude and strong time‑management skills. Weekend work flexibility required due to the urgency of airfreight cargo. Highly detailed‑oriented, well‑organized. Team player who can also work independently. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Great customer‑service skills. Ability to work in a busy, fast‑paced environment. Benefits Salary expected: $55,000–$75,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
