Job Overview

The Registered Nurse in the Clinical Care Leader (CCL) position plays a vital role in delivering healthcare services to patients in collaboration with the healthcare team. This role emphasizes effective communication and the dissemination of information in a manner that is clear and impactful. The CCL understands the significance of teamwork in overcoming barriers and achieving organizational goals, leading staff from various departments to communicate, coordinate efforts, and collaboratively address challenges.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Utilizing the nursing process—assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation—to deliver personalized nursing care.
  • Collaborating with inter-professional colleagues, including physicians, to plan, execute, and assess patient care.
  • Demonstrating proficiency within the full scope of nursing practice and adhering to age-specific standards relevant to the clinical environment.
  • Providing care across all stages of preventive health, maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up as patients progress through the continuum of care.
  • Coordinating patient assessments, education, triage, and various nursing interventions.
  • Operating within the guidelines of the Nurse Practice Act and relevant administrative rules in the state of practice.
  • Recognizing and adhering to the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses as established by the American Nurses Association.

The CCL is expected to:

  • Exhibit competence in the nursing skills required for the unit/department.
  • Understand safety procedures and programs to ensure employee well-being.
  • Take a leadership role during high-risk scenarios.
  • Coordinate nursing activities while aligning with the organization's philosophy, objectives, and care standards.
  • Be aware of the financial implications of staffing and patient care.
  • Employ critical thinking to manage patient care and respond to emergencies effectively.
  • Make patient assignments based on staff competencies, scope of practice, experience, and individual patient needs.
  • Utilize strong communication skills to resolve conflicts among peers, inter-professional colleagues, patients, and families.
  • Act as a mentor to team members while overseeing unit activities.
  • Engage in departmental committees and assist with the Peer Review Process.
  • Participate in ongoing learning and development opportunities.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in Nursing is strongly preferred, particularly in specific networks.
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program recognized by relevant accrediting bodies.
  • A minimum of two years of clinical experience is preferred.
  • Possession of an unencumbered RN license from the State Board of Nursing where practice occurs, or multistate licensure if applicable.
  • Maintenance of required competencies and certifications specific to the department, with Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 60 days of employment.
