Civil Engineer - Water Date: Apr 28, 2026 Location: Austin, TX, US Company: Black & Veatch Family of Companies The Opportunity Focus on large‑scale water and wastewater infrastructure projects such as design, construction, and startup of various facilities. Hands‑on involvement in developing reports or technical memos, completing studies, detailed designs, and specifications, and preparing contract documents. Participation in scheduling, budgeting, and contract administration for infrastructure projects, including business development and proposal preparation. Coordinate with internal and external team members on moderately complex projects. Assist with identification of key client interests and drivers on less complex projects. Communicate client interests and drivers to project team members and develop approaches to accommodate these concerns. Key Responsibilities Perform design of projects from conceptual and bid phases through design completion. Assist the Engineering Manager in maintaining project schedules and budgets. Assist the Engineering Manager in managing sub‑consultants. Interface directly with the client or sub‑consultants under the direction of the Engineering Manager. Support business development through writing of technical approaches, scopes of work, and presentations to clients. Apply knowledge of civil concepts, codes, and procedures within the water engineering industry. Use knowledge to develop non‑standard design solutions for complex projects. Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to less experienced engineers. Ensure effective communication with other engineering disciplines and the project team. Prepare a variety of complex engineering deliverables. Perform complex research and develop recommendations for equipment and materials selection. Prepare engineering calculations following standard methods and principles; manage assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements. Plan and conduct independent evaluations, selections, and adaptations of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Review engineering work and assignments of early career professionals. Oversee data collection, assimilation, and management for engineering work or lead smaller production teams. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline. Licensed PE or pursuing PE registration. Thorough understanding of water and wastewater design (infrastructure, conveyance, pump/lift stations). Ability and motivation to lead portions of complex projects with guidance and mentorship. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program. Minimum five years of related work experience. Ability to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements including background checks and screenings. Certifications Professional engineering registration preferred or being pursued. Work Environment / Physical Demands Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days. Typical office and construction environments, including exposure to extreme weather, noise, safety hazards, and atmospheric conditions. Tasks include sitting, walking, talking, hearing, reading, writing, driving, reaching, lifting or carrying up to 40 pounds.
