The Capital One Application Security team is looking for an Application Security Engineer to help validate that our services, applications and websites are designed and implemented to the highest security standards. You will be responsible for analyzing the security of applications and services, discovering and addressing security issues, building security automation and quickly reacting to new threat scenarios. You will have the opportunity to learn from, and be mentored by, those who are building and securing our cutting‑edge applications. An Application Security Engineer at Capital One is expected to be strong in multiple domains and provide significant contributions to the Capital One Security team. Security engineers are expected to develop solutions and apply appropriate decision making to complex business problems, all while adhering to security engineering best practices. In addition, an Application Security Engineer must foster constructive dialogue and seek resolution when confronted with discordant views. Engineers in this role are expected to participate fully in the planning of the team's work and constantly seek opportunities for process improvements. A successful candidate will need a combination of troubleshooting, technical, and communication skills, as well as the ability to handle a mix of tasks which may include project and software development work. Key job responsibilities API and web application security reviews Mobile application security reviews Projects and research work as needed Security training and outreach to internal development teams Security guidance documentation Security tool development Security metrics delivery and improvements Assistance with recruiting activities and administrative work Basic Qualifications High School Diploma, GED or equivalent certification At least 4 years of experience with dynamic application security, web, API or mobile security, secure coding, or software development or a combination of At least 4 years of experience with security engineering or application security Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science 2+ years experience testing APIs, web and mobile applications 2+ years experience with multiple programming languages (Java, Python, Perl, etc.) The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked. New York City (Hybrid On-Site): $161,900 - $184,800 for Prin Assoc, Cyber Technical Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter. This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
