Job Title: Nuclear Medicine Technologist Profession: Nuclear Med Tech Specialty: Nuclear Medicine Duration: 20 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: 1+ years License: Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board or American Registry of Radiologic Technologist - Nuclear Certifications: BLS from AHA only Must-Have Skills/Experience: Graduation from a formal Nuclear Medicine training program is required. 1 year of experience as a Nuclear Med Tech in a hospital-based setting. Must have current BLS certification. Excellent communicator in written and verbal format. Ability to handle complex situations. Strong team player. Description: Locates and properly operates oxygen, suction, blood pressure, IV pump, and other essential patient care equipment. Consistently observes patients before, during, and after procedures. Utilizes appropriate mobilization devices. Appropriately transfers patients to/from stretchers/wheelchairs and on/off imaging tables while giving care to IVs and other appliances. Safely operates all equipment and immediately reports malfunctions. Locates all emergency switches on equipment. Demonstrates understanding of emergency procedures and radiation safety. Ensures all data entered/retrieved from physician orders and/or computer systems is accurate prior to performing patient exams. Understands biohazard safety and regulatory commission regulations. Properly receives, stores, and disposes of radioactive material. Performs radiation detection surveys and wipes; decontaminates if appropriate. Communicates to the manager or immediate supervisor any abnormalities in daily routines, such as physician or patient concerns, equipment malfunctions, or other pertinent information. Practices proper radiation safety following ALARA principles. Demonstrates knowledge of emergency procedures and meets annual competency requirements. Reviews orders for appropriate diagnosis. Schedules patients and department resources for services efficiently. Performs all procedures according to the protocol stated in the procedure manual, unless directed otherwise by a physician. Presents completed procedures to the physician for interpretation. Collaborates with staff members and physicians to ensure optimal patient care delivery at all times. Demonstrates ability to revise departmental schedules and staff assignments to meet patient and physician needs. Assumes responsibility for portions of the quality improvement program. Keeps all documentation current and available. Follows through with any problem areas and assists in the department orientation program as needed. Contributes to the development of educational needs of support staff or students. Demonstrates proficiency in performing quality control on all nuclear cameras before imaging patients. Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals for exams following procedure manuals. Recognizes problems and corrects them as needed. Discards contaminated materials in appropriate waste containers. Documents information in electronic nuclear medicine information systems. Keeps up to date with all new upgrades and performs radiopharmaceutical quality control as per departmental procedures. Takes corrective action as necessary and works with management to maintain departmental policies and procedures. Greets patients by name and introduces themselves. Provides patients with thorough explanations of procedures and efficiently performs these procedures. Uses good judgment with add-on cases to meet patient and department needs without disrupting schedules. Demonstrates technical proficiency in producing diagnostic images while recognizing technical abnormalities. Selects appropriate techniques for each procedure and positions patients according to departmental protocols. Prepares and stocks rooms for various exams; checks equipment between patients and orders supplies as needed. Cleans rooms and equipment between patients, including injection rooms. Effectively alters routine procedures when patient conditions indicate and makes necessary changes on requisitions. Submits correct charges for tracers and supplies used. Assists in the transportation of patients. Responsible for sending all images to the designated system. Works fair share of on-call and weekends with expected arrival within 30 minutes of call-in. Displays flexibility by willingly working in any area or changing scheduled work hours.
