Job Description

This role focuses on the installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic security and access control equipment for commercial businesses. The Electronics Technician works with a wide range of alarm, CCTV, and access control platforms, using diagnostic tools and software to identify issues and ensure systems operate reliably and efficiently. The position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to deliver professional customer service while working on-site at client locations.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electronic security and access entry equipment for commercial businesses.
  • Service and support all major alarm, CCTV, and access control platforms to ensure reliable performance.
  • Install cabling, card readers, electronic strikes, door contacts, mag locks, and related security hardware.
  • Mount and configure security equipment, including intrusion detection devices, CCTV cameras, and access control systems.
  • Cut in and install electronic strikes and associated low-voltage wiring in accordance with specifications and safety standards.
  • Utilize diagnostic equipment, software tools, and established troubleshooting techniques to isolate equipment failures and resolve performance issues.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, manuals, wiring diagrams, and other technical specifications to complete installations and repairs accurately.
  • Perform mechanical assembly and low-voltage electrical work as needed to support security system installations.
  • Use basic electrical principles and troubleshooting techniques to identify and resolve system faults.
  • Maintain and use personal basic tools to complete daily tasks efficiently and safely.
  • Provide professional, courteous customer service while working in client facilities and collaborate effectively with on-site staff.
  • Document work performed and communicate system status, issues, and recommendations clearly to stakeholders.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electronic security systems, including alarms, CCTV, and access control platforms.
  • Hands-on experience installing cabling, card readers, electronic strikes, door contacts, mag locks, and related access control hardware.
  • Ability to cut in and install electronic strikes and perform associated low-voltage work.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with electronic security equipment installation, including CCTV systems, alarm systems, and access control panel systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills using diagnostic equipment, software, and established techniques to isolate and resolve equipment failures.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, manuals, wiring diagrams, and other technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of basic electrical principles and standard troubleshooting methods for low-voltage systems.
  • Good computer skills and the ability to work with various software and diagnostic systems.
  • DCJS certification, as required for electronic security work.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to provide professional customer service and work comfortably with others in business environments.
  • Ownership and use of basic hand tools required for electronic installation and repair work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working specifically with mag locks and related access control hardware.
  • Experience in mechanical assembly related to security equipment installations.
  • Familiarity with a wide range of CCTV, alarm, and access control manufacturers and platforms.
  • Comfort working independently in the field and managing multiple service calls or projects.
  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety and industry standards.
  • Ability to adapt to future potential requirements such as emergency or after-hours support if needed.

Work Environment

This position follows a standard daytime schedule of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with an hour for lunch and some flexibility around lunch timing. Work is primarily performed on-site at commercial business locations, involving hands-on installation and service of low-voltage electronic security systems, including CCTV, alarm systems, access control panels, card readers, electronic strikes, door contacts, and mag locks. The role requires frequent use of diagnostic equipment, specialized software, and basic hand tools, which the technician provides and maintains. The current schedule does not require emergency or on-call/after-hours work, though this may become a possibility in the future. The work environment involves collaborating with business staff and operating in a variety of facility conditions, where a professional appearance and demeanor are expected.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Midlothian, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00/hr.
