Position: Direct Support Professional (DSP)

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–8:00 AM
Hours: 10 hours per week
Employment Type: Part-Time
Location: Columbia, MD 21044

About the Position

Helpful Hearts Health Services is seeking a dependable, compassionate, and responsible Respite Service Provider/DSP to provide morning respite support to an individual with developmental disabilities.

The Respite Provider will assist the individual during the morning routine while promoting independence, dignity, safety, choice, and community participation .

Schedule

Monday–Friday | 6:00 AM–8:00 AM

The position requires consistent and reliable attendance during the scheduled morning hours.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide individualized support during the morning routine.
• Assist with activities of daily living based on the individual's assessed needs and service plan.
• Encourage and support the individual's independence and decision-making.
• Provide supervision to promote health and safety.
• Assist with preparing for school, work, day program, appointments, or community activities as applicable.
• Support appropriate communication and social interaction.
• Follow the individual's Person-Centered Plan (PCP), behavior support guidelines, and other applicable service requirements.
• Maintain accurate and timely service documentation.
• Report incidents, changes in condition, or safety concerns according to HHHS policies.
• Respect the individual's privacy, rights, dignity, and personal choices.
• Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
• Communicate effectively with the individual's family/guardian and HHHS team as appropriate.
• Follow all Maryland DDA requirements and HHHS policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
• Experience as a DSP, caregiver, respite provider, or direct care worker is a plus.
• Must be dependable, punctual, patient, and compassionate.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a care team.
• Must successfully complete required background checks and employment screening.
• Must complete required HHHS and Maryland DDA training.
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality and professional conduct.
