Position Summary

Vanterra Foundation Solutions is seeking an AR Staff Accountant to join our Accounting team. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, this position will be responsible for the accurate recording and reconciliation of revenue, customer payments, revenue adjustments, bad debt, and other accounts receivable activity.

A key focus of this role will be maintaining accurate financial records while identifying opportunities to improve and scale AR processes. As Vanterra continues to grow and integrate new businesses, the AR Staff Accountant will help develop efficient, consistent processes that support timely reporting, strong internal controls, and accurate general ledger activity.

Key Responsibilities

Revenue Recognition & Recording

• Record revenue at the job level from the company’s CRM into NetSuite.
• Review revenue activity for accuracy, completeness, and proper accounting treatment.
• Ensure revenue transactions are recorded in the appropriate accounting periods and general ledger accounts.
• Research and resolve discrepancies between operational systems and accounting records.

Customer Payments & Cash Application

• Accurately record and apply customer payments to outstanding customer balances.
• Post payment activity to the appropriate accounts to support timely and accurate bank reconciliations.
• Research unapplied, unidentified, duplicate, or incorrectly posted payments.
• Partner with internal teams to resolve customer account discrepancies as needed.

Revenue Adjustments

• Record change orders, customer relations adjustments, credits, refunds, and other revenue adjustments in NetSuite.
• Process approved bad debt write-offs and ensure appropriate supporting documentation is maintained.
• Review adjustments for accuracy and compliance with company policies and accounting standards.

CRM & General Ledger Reconciliation

• Reconcile revenue recorded within the CRM and other sub-ledgers to the general ledger.
• Run and analyze reports to verify that revenue for each branch is accurately and completely recorded.
• Investigate and resolve reconciliation differences in a timely manner.
• Maintain supporting schedules and documentation for reconciliation activities.

Month-End & Financial Reporting Support

• Support month-end and year-end close activities related to accounts receivable and revenue.
• Prepare reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documentation for financial reporting.
• Assist with internal and external audit requests related to revenue and AR activity.
• Identify unusual trends, discrepancies, or transactions and escalate issues as appropriate.

Process Improvement & Scalability

• Evaluate existing AR and revenue processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
• Recommend improvements that reduce manual work, strengthen controls, and minimize errors.
• Assist with standardizing AR processes across branches and newly integrated businesses.
• Contribute to the development and documentation of accounting procedures and workflows.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with Accounting, Finance, Operations, and other departments to resolve revenue and customer account issues.
• Assist other members of the Accounting and Finance teams as needed.
• Support departmental projects and broader company initiatives.

Compliance & Internal Controls

• Ensure transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP, company policies, and applicable financial regulations.
• Follow and support established internal controls surrounding revenue and accounts receivable.
• Assist with implementing new accounting standards and process changes as applicable.
• Identify potential control gaps and recommend improvements when appropriate.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 3+ years of relevant accounting experience, preferably with exposure to accounts receivable, revenue accounting, cash application, or general ledger accounting.
• Experience working in a multi-location, multi-entity, construction, home services, or high-growth environment is a plus.
• Experience with NetSuite or another ERP/accounting platform is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
• Experience with NetSuite or similar ERP systems.
• Experience working with CRM-to-ERP revenue workflows.
• Experience with data management, financial reporting, and dashboard tools.
• Familiarity with cloud-based accounting and financial systems.
• Understanding of data integrity and financial system controls.
• Knowledge of internal controls and their impact on revenue and accounts receivable processes.
