Direct Support Professional II

Date: Jun 4, 2026 Location: LUBBOCK, TX Job Overview Direct Support Professional II (DSP II) at Lubbock State Supported Living Center. Works multiple shifts (Morning, Evening, Night) across several homes. Provides direct care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Key Responsibilities Provide routine and emergency care, treatment, and training. Assist with grooming, bathing, feeding, and observe/report conditions. Document daily schedules, responses, training, and incidents. Assist with transportation, first aid, CPR, and emergency interventions. Teach life skills and assist in treatment plan development. Follow safety procedures including evacuation, restraint, and medical interventions. Mentor new DSPs or serve as shift/team lead when required. Essential Job Functions (EJFs) Attend work on a regular basis, may work specific or rotating schedules. Implement habilitation, rehabilitation, behavior management, crisis intervention. Teach life skills such as feeding, dressing, and personal hygiene. Participate in treatment plan development. Observe signs and symptoms of disease or injury; document and report. Assist in transportation of individuals to activities or emergencies. Administer first aid and provide CPR or other emergency care. Evacuate individuals during emergencies or drills. Prevent or manage aggressive behavior and administer CPR. Perform direct care and support services. Provide training or mentorship to new DSPs or serve as shift/team lead. Participate in disaster response and recovery activities; may require alternate shift patterns. Qualifications and Skills (KSAs) Ability to speak and read English. Decision-making ability and good judgment in critical incidents. Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergencies. Proficiency in proper body mechanics, good posture, and lifting techniques. Knowledge of individual care techniques and developmental programs. Ability to provide first aid, CPR, Ukeru, and Safe Use of Restraint (SUR). Effective communication and ability to train/mentor/coach others. Teamwork skills. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent. Valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire. Certification in CPR, First Aid, Ukeru, and/or Safe Use of Restraint is preferred. 6 months of work experience; experience in writing reports. Experience in behavior programs for individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities. Experience working with people who have mental health/intellectual developmental disabilities. Minimum age 18; males 18‑25 must register with Selective Service. Additional Information Applicants must pass fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks.
