Job summary:

The Garage Underwriting Assistant provides administrative and operational support to the underwriting team, helping maintain and service a growing portfolio of commercial garage insurance business. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone interested in building a career in insurance, underwriting, or commercial lines operations. The role plays an important part in ensuring policies are processed accurately, agency partners receive timely support, and underwriting files remain organized and up to date.

Working closely with experienced underwriters, the Garage Underwriting Assistant assists with policy transactions, account maintenance, documentation management, and agency inquiries. Successful candidates are detail-oriented, organized, customer-focused, and eager to learn. Individuals with strong administrative, customer service, office support, or insurance-related experience are encouraged to apply.

This position offers exposure to the underwriting process and the opportunity to develop specialized knowledge within the commercial transportation and garage insurance marketplace while supporting a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities:

• Provide administrative support to the underwriting team in managing and maintaining a book of commercial garage business.
• Process policy transactions, including new business, renewals, endorsements, cancellations, and other policy-related documentation.
• Bind coverage with approved insurance carrier partners based on underwriting direction.
• Assist with account maintenance activities, including non-renewals and policy updates when appropriate.
• Serve as a primary point of contact for agency inquiries and provide responsive customer support.
• Maintain accurate electronic underwriting files and supporting documentation.
• Review and enter information into internal systems while ensuring data accuracy and completeness.
• Coordinate with underwriters, carriers, and agency partners to obtain required information and documentation.
• Monitor outstanding items and follow up on underwriting requests as needed.
• Support workflow management and contribute to efficient day-to-day underwriting operations.
• Assist with special projects and departmental initiatives as assigned.

Requirements:

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Computer proficiency, including experience working within business systems and Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Customer service experience and a professional approach when interacting with agency partners and internal stakeholders.
• Willingness and ability to learn insurance products, underwriting processes, and industry terminology.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
• Prior insurance, underwriting support, administrative, office coordination, banking, financial services, or customer service experience is beneficial.
• Experience working with documentation, data entry, or transactional processing is considered an asset.

Education and licenses:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Insurance, or a related field is helpful but not required.
• Insurance industry coursework or professional designations are beneficial but not required.

Candidates should be comfortable with an on-site presence to support collaboration, team leadership, and cross-functional partnership.
