Location: Marine Corps Air Station - Yuma

Salary: $15.15

Summary of Function:

The Military & Veteran Services Specialist advises students and processes student intake by adhering to the admission application process, assisting with tuition assistance forms, and overseeing residency determination. Additionally, the Military & Veteran Services Specialist provides unique, specialized services relative to military students' intake and documentation.

Typical Duties:

• Serves Students by collecting, reviewing, maintaining, and processing student records, admissions, registration, and withdrawal information into the College ERP system. Identifies and develops educational pathways for students.
• Provides information and explains policies, procedures, rules, and regulations to students, faculty, staff, and the public. Serve as a reference source for admissions, registration, and records.
• Provide information regarding educational benefits and financial assistance programs available to military and affiliated students and assist in processing necessary documentation to utilize those benefits
• Responsible for receiving, processing, and monitoring Joint Service Transcripts & supporting the Military & Veteran Services Coordinator/Assistant Coordinator in the transcript evaluation process.
• Provides academic advising and retention guidance to students.
• Administer Accuplacer placement tests, midterm, and final exams, coordinates with appropriate college departments with the administration of CLEP, and Dante's Subject Standardized test (DSST) aboard military installations.
• Represents AWC at outreach and recruitment events by providing information and answering questions regarding the college, programs, admissions, and related information.
• Supports and participates in strategic planning initiatives, and performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Associate's degree AND 1-year of experience with administrative work, OR
• An equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved may be considered
• Preferred but not required Experience and Skills: VA Educational Benefits, veterans, and/or proficiency in Spanish is beneficial to this role. Any such experience should be clearly detailed within application materials

Additional Eligibility Requirements:

• Arizona Driver's License or Equivalent
• Pass a background check and Department of Defense Clearance

Position Type & Work Schedule:

• Part-time
• Up to 19 hours per week
• Work flexible schedule to meet the program, department, and/or institutional needs, which may include Fridays, nights, and/or weekends

• Skill in current technologies and word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications, Windows, college system platforms, software, and applications especially those specific to the department operations

• Ability to complete all departmental and/or institutional mandatory training or development

Work Environment:

• Inside office environment with normal noise and lighting levels
• Work is performed in an open office environment with staff, students, and community contact and interruptions
• Working environment may include various locations across the service district, with varying noise levels, indoor and/or outdoor locations as needed to support program, department or institutional needs
• Must be able to perform duties in a variety of weather conditions

Physical Demands:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Prolonged periods of standing and/or walking
• May lift, carry, push, and/or pull, at times a minimum of 10 pounds
• Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and/or twist
• Safely and appropriately operate golf carts or district vehicles
• Must be able to navigate various departments of the organization's physical premises

Travel:

• May be required to travel to other locations using various modes of private, commercial, or fleet transportation, and as needed to support program, department, and institutional needs
