Job DescriptionThe Court Reporter serves as an officer of the court and is independently responsible for producing an accurate, verbatim record of courtroom proceedings using assigned stenographic and voice-writing equipment. Duties include legal transcription, real-time and read-back reporting, and preparing certified transcripts for judges, attorneys, and the public in accordance with Nevada law and court rules.Essential functions include attending courtroom hearings, preparing, proofreading, and certifying transcripts, providing read-back of records, prioritizing and preparing transcripts to meet deadlines, monitoring court calendars, organizing and archiving records, maintaining confidentiality, performing other duties, complying with policies, accurately completing work assignments, adhering to the Model Code of Conduct for Court Professionals in the State of Nevada, communicating tactfully, listening carefully, and responding appropriately.Education and ExperienceDegree from an accredited Court Reporting School; valid Certified Court Reporter (CCR) license issued by the Certified Court Reporters' Board of Nevada pursuant to NRS 656; must maintain required continuing education credits as required by the Board. Any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities. Valid Nevada Certified Court Reporter (CCR) license (NRS 656). Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada driver's license.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesRequired knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) include good command of grammar, vocabulary, and punctuation; knowledge of legal terminology and court proceedings; knowledge of Nevada Rules of Civil and Criminal Procedure as they pertain to the official record; communicating effectively both verbally and in writing; understanding and carrying out complex written and oral communications; demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills; managing time effectively, including prioritizing multiple transcript requests and deadlines; operating stenographic, voice-writing, and Computer-Aided Transcription (CAT) equipment and software; reading and understanding criminal and civil complaints, statutes and codes, letters, legal documents, and legal terminology; communicating clearly, both in writing and verbally, in a tactful and courteous manner with defendants, co-workers, and the public in all situations; maintaining confidentiality and working independently while demonstrating initiative and sound judgment; complying with District Court procedures and the Model Code of Conduct for Court Professionals in the State of Nevada; acting appropriately with individuals who are upset, distraught, or emotional.Physical Demands and Working EnvironmentAn employee in this position must meet the following physical requirements upon application: Work is performed in an office and courtroom setting. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office and reporting equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear; sit; use hands, feel, or operate objects or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand or walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
