About the Role The Patient Care Tech performs patient care activities within the limits of the position. Position’s Essential Responsibilities Assists other nursing personnel in patient care. Reports identified unusual patient conditions/reactions to licensed staff. Makes rounds with oncoming shift. Completes audits, as assigned. Enter charges, as needed. Performs functions that may be delegated by the licensed professional nurse (when appropriate). Measures and applies TED hose and SCD stockings. Performs oral suctioning with a tonsil-tip suction device. Performs blood glucose monitoring at the bedside. Applies pulse oximeter probe and records readings. Assists with setup (not application) of wall or tank oxygen therapy. Empties colostomy or ileostomy bags. Utilizes orthopedic appliances to include but not limited to braces, CPM machine, crutches, and walkers. Exhibits compassionate care and service excellence and demonstrates Studer Principles and “must haves”. Facilitates patient movement through the facility, proactively supporting timely admissions, discharges, and transfers. Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively. Participates in Performance Improvement activities. All other duties as assigned Education & Experience Requirements Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate preferred. Current and active CPR certification. Demonstrates the ability to work under pressure or stress. Must be able to demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and possess good oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles. Strong assessment, organizational and problem‑solving skills as evidenced by capacity to prioritize multiple tasks and role components. Ability to function independently and exercise judgment in interactions with physicians, interprofessional care team and patients and their families. Uses critical thinking skills and clinical judgment to work autonomously as defined by the Nurse Practice Act. Demonstrates the ability to establish priorities among the essential functions of the job and coordinate these functions with others.
