General Statement of Job Function The Financial Aid Advisor provides direct support to the Director of Financial Aid in delivering exceptional student services and ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and institutional financial aid policies and regulations. This role serves as the primary point of contact for students navigating financial aid, playing a key role in advancing Denver Seminary’s recruitment and retention goals through timely, accurate, and compassionate support. In this role, the Financial Aid Advisor assists students in overcoming financial barriers to their education, enabling them to fully engage in their academic, spiritual, and professional development. By providing timely guidance, financial literacy resources, and support in managing student aid, this position directly contributes to Denver Seminary’s mission of preparing men and women to engage the world’s needs with the redemptive power of the gospel and the life-changing truth of Scripture. Essential Functions Assists prospective and current students with the financial aid process, including the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and scholarship application Main point of contact for all student questions and concerns via in-person, phone, and email Maintains the Financial Aid Office’s Policies and Procedures Manual with regard to those points that this position oversees Oversees the student outreach for Financial Aid, such as Financial Literacy, FAFSA completion, Preview Days, FA trainings off-site, etc. Ensures all communication (email, phone, etc.) is up-to-date, and schedules are in place for communication to students Oversees the Seminary’s financial literacy program, which provides students with on-campus educational seminars and updated financial-management tools. Develops and oversees student debt management efforts. Maintains contact with student borrowers’ delinquent in loan payments. Monitors the School’s default rate. Maintains contact with federal loan services to help manage default rates and loan repayment efforts. Assists the Director with Title IV awarding, verification, clearing of ISIR issues and federal audit. Secondary Functions Assist other departments within the Department of Student Success as needed Stay up to date on training by attending webinars, off site training, etc. Communicate with vendors associated with financial aid programs Data entry of financial aid forms Maintain financial aid file system Education/Training Prior experience with financial aid preferred. A knowledge and general understanding of accounting and bookkeeping, with accurate math skills Experience with customer service and ability to relate well to a diverse population Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral form Ability to give careful attention to detail A commitment to discern and maintain confidentiality Computer competency with familiarity and proficiency with Microsoft Office software Familiarity with CampusVue SIS software preferred Familiarity with the Federal Direct Loan Program, its technical processes and its systems (e.g. EDConnect, COD, NSLDS) preferred Qualifications Committed personal relationship with Jesus Christ required and a lifestyle consistent with the Seminary’s Community Values and Behavioral Commitments. Students who communicate in a timely, professional, and confidential manner Meeting all deadlines with a high rate of accuracy Metrics of recruitment and retention will be maintained or increased by leveraging institutional aid Typical Physical Demands and Working Conditions Normal office working conditions, including computer usage, may require occasional standing, walking, long periods of sitting, climbing stairs, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
