Reporting into the CFO organization, this leader will serve as the central authority for enterprise data definitions, stewardship, quality, ownership, and governance across all business and product domains. The Director will also serve as the enterprise Data Governance Lead supporting Relias’ privacy operations and Data Subject Access Request (“DSAR”) operating model. In this capacity, the Director will be accountable for the enterprise data inventory and map, data stewardship, classification, lineage, and know where personal data starts, where it gets copied or sent, which systems should be addressed first, how that map stays current, and who must certify that each system handled a privacy request correctly. The Director will partner closely with the Privacy Operations, Legal, Information Security, Product, Engineering, Data & Analytics, Marketing, Customer Success, Support, HR, Procurement, and individual system owners. The Director will create the framework that allows Relias to operate from a single source of truth by aligning Product, Engineering, Revenue, Finance, Customer Success, Operations, and Corporate functions around common business definitions, trusted reporting, governed data assets, and enterprise-wide accountability. This role will lead the development of enterprise data policies, stewardship programs, governance councils, master data standards, metadata practices, and data quality frameworks that support executive decision making, operational excellence, regulatory compliance, analytics, and AI initiatives. The Director will support the implementation and ongoing governance of enterprise data-discovery, catalog, lineage, master-data, and privacy-operations technologies, including the data mapping and stewardship components of any DSAR automation platform. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:Enterprise Data Governance Strategy & Operating Model: Define and implement Relias's enterprise data governance operating model, stewardship framework, governance councils, business ownership structure, and decision-making processes. Create accountability for business data across departments and establish governance standards that ensure consistency, transparency, and trust in enterprise reporting and regulated data-processing activities. Lead the Data Governance Council and steward network while partnering with business leaders to resolve data ownership and definition issues. Establish clear accountability for enterprise data assets and systems, including designated business owners, technical owners and Data Stewards, with defined escalation and certification requirements across downstream and third-party data flows. Create escalation mechanisms, supported by the CFO and applicable executive sponsors, for unresolved ownership gaps, overdue attestations, deficient data controls and non-participating system owners. Ensure that enterprise data governance standards align with privacy, records-management, information-security, AI-governance, contractual and regulatory requirements. Enterprise Metrics & Business Definition Governance: Establish and maintain enterprise-wide definitions for critical business metrics, including customer, learner, product usage, revenue, bookings, ARR, retention, churn, compliance, operational performance, and AI-related measures. Create the authoritative business glossary and semantic layer that standardizes reporting across Finance, Product, Customer Success, Revenue Operations, Marketing, and Executive Leadership Partner with Finance, Product, Revenue Operations, Customer Success, IT, and Technology leaders to eliminate conflicting definitions and create a consistent enterprise business glossary that serves as the authoritative source for reporting, forecasting, board reporting, and executive decision-making. Establish governed definitions for personal data, data-subject identities, authoritative identifiers, customer-controlled data, Relias-controlled data, derived data, de-identified data, suppression records, system of record, downstream system and other classifications required for privacy and DSAR workflows. Master Data Management & Information Stewardship: Develop and implement enterprise-wide master data management strategies across Customer, Account, Contact, Learner, User, Product, Content, Employee, and Organization hierarchies. Define data ownership, authoritative source systems, data stewardship responsibilities, matching and survivorship rules, and data lifecycle accountability that ensure consistency and accuracy across Salesforce Data360, Databricks, Tableau, operational applications, and future enterprise platforms. Partner with system owners to roll out programs. Define and govern the identity attributes, matching logic, source-system precedence and survivorship rules needed to locate and reconcile an individual across customer, learner, user, employee, CRM, marketing, support, product and analytics environments. Identify authoritative systems, replicated systems, downstream destinations, derived datasets and re-ingestion paths so that deletion, correction, suppression and access actions are not reversed or rendered incomplete by subsequent data synchronization. Establish lifecycle ownership for active, archived, backup, log, cache, index, unstructured, vendor-hosted and derived data locations. Data Quality & Trusted Data Program: Establish enterprise data quality standards, scorecards, monitoring frameworks, metadata management practices, data catalog capabilities, and lineage documentation. Develop KPIs that measure completeness, accuracy, consistency, timeliness, and duplicate management. Partner with technology teams to identify root causes while maintaining business accountability for remediation. Establish data-governance controls and monitoring for completeness of system inventories, assignment of business and technical owners, lineage coverage, steward approvals, recurring attestations, retention classifications and unresolved data-location gaps. Define and monitor standards for system-owner attestations supporting privacy-rights execution, including identification of the applicable system, data location, action taken, date performed, responsible owner and supporting evidence reference. Partner with Information Security on technical evidence standards and control validation, and with Legal on approved retention, deletion, suppression and exception requirements. Produce residual-gap reporting identifying systems, datasets or vendors that are unsearched, unsupported, manually controlled, not yet integrated or otherwise unable to provide complete evidence. Privacy, DSAR & Data Lifecycle Governance Serve as the Data Governance Lead for Relias’s DSAR Data Governance Operating Plan and related technology implementation. Own and maintain the enterprise data inventory and data map required to identify where personal data is created, collected, stored, transformed, replicated, shared, archived and deleted across Relias-controlled systems, customer-controlled environments, vendors and subprocessors. Reconcile the initial privacy-platform baseline and subsequent discovery records into a validated enterprise inventory with named business owners, technical owners, Data Stewards, data classifications, data flows and applicable lifecycle requirements. Prioritize systems and datasets into risk-based implementation tiers based on privacy risk, identity significance, downstream propagation, legal role, business criticality, evidence gaps and implementation feasibility. Coordinate recurring steward review, platform change assessment, data-map certification and system-owner attestation processes so the inventory remains current after initial implementation. Partner with the Privacy Operations / DSAR Program Owner to identify in-scope systems and data locations for request workflows, while Privacy Operations retains accountability for case intake, classification, deadlines, assignments, requester communications, evidence completeness and closeout. Partner with Legal to translate approved retention, deletion, de-identification, suppression, legal-hold, accreditation, certification, contractual and controller/processor requirements into governed data classifications, lifecycle rules and operational metadata. Partner with Information Security, IT, Product, Engineering, Data & Analytics and system owners to define system-specific data locations, deletion or de-identification methods, downstream dependencies, manual execution requirements and evidence-return obligations. Support the proof of value, configuration, connector validation, acceptance testing, deployment and operational handoff of any approved DSAR or privacy-operations platform, including data-map stewardship, identity-resolution requirements, manual-task workflows, audit-evidence outputs and residual-gap reporting. Escalate incomplete inventories, absent system ownership, unsupported data locations, overdue attestations and recurring execution failures to the DSAR Program Owner and executive sponsor. Maintain clear separation between Data Governance responsibilities and the responsibilities of Privacy Operations, Legal, Information Security and system owners. Data Enablement & Organizational Adoption:Drive enterprise adoption of governance practices through Data Steward training, business glossary adoption, data literacy programs, governance communications, and process documentation. Create a culture where teams understand ownership and accountability for enterprise data assets. Train business owners, technical owners and Data Stewards on DSAR-related data-location, lifecycle, attestation, change-notification and evidence-return responsibilities. Develop reusable playbooks, ownership matrices, certification processes and escalation protocols that allow governance practices to scale across Relias’s enterprise platform environment. QualificationsCOMPETENCIES Enterprise Data Governance Leadership: Demonstrated ability to build and mature enterprise governance functions, stewardship programs, governance councils, and operating models that create accountability and trust in organizational data assets. Master Data Management Expertise: Deep expertise designing and implementing master data strategies, ownership frameworks, business glossaries, stewardship models, and authoritative source governance across complex enterprise environments. Enterprise Metrics & KPI Governance: Experience establishing standardized business metrics, reporting frameworks, semantic models, executive dashboards, and enterprise-wide performance measurement methodologies. Data Quality & Information Management: Strong understanding of data quality management, metadata administration, lineage tracking, cataloging, governance tooling, and enterprise information management best practices. Analytics, AI & Modern Data Platforms: Working knowledge of modern data ecosystems, including cloud data platforms, Databricks, Salesforce Data360, Tableau, AI-driven analytics, and emerging metrics associated with enterprise AI adoption, together with the privacy, security, lineage and lifecycle controls required when enterprise data is used for analytics and AI. Executive Influence & Stakeholder Alignment: Exceptional ability to influence senior leaders, facilitate cross-functional decisions, resolve competing priorities, and drive enterprise-wide adoption of governance frameworks and standards. Organizational Change Leadership: Demonstrated success leading cultural and operational change initiatives that improve data accountability, consistency, transparency, and business outcomes. Privacy, DSAR & Data Lifecycle Governance: Working knowledge of privacy-rights operating models, DSAR data mapping, retention and deletion governance, durable suppression, data minimization, customer-controlled versus company-controlled data, vendor data flows and the governance requirements needed to support defensible request fulfillment. Enterprise Data Inventory & Lineage: Demonstrated ability to create and maintain enterprise inventories covering structured, unstructured, derived, replicated, archived, backup, log, cache, index and vendor-hosted data, with clear ownership, lineage, system classification and lifecycle accountability. Control, Attestation & Auditability: Experience establishing system-owner attestations, recurring certifications, evidence standards, control monitoring, issue escalation and audit-ready documentation across decentralized business and technology teams. Privacy Technology Implementation: Experience supporting implementation of data catalogs, data-discovery platforms, privacy-request automation, identity-resolution, workflow-management or similar governance technology, including requirements definition, acceptance testing, change management and operational handoff. YOU’VE GOT WHAT IT TAKES IF YOU HAVE:10 years of experience in Data Governance, Master Data Management, Enterprise Information Management, Data Strategy, Analytics, or related disciplines Minimum of 5 years leading enterprise-scale governance or information management initiatives Proven experience establishing data governance frameworks, stewardship models, governance councils, and enterprise business glossaries. Demonstrated ability to align business and technology stakeholders around common metrics, definitions, and data standards. Experience supporting executive reporting, analytics, forecasting, operational management, and enterprise performance measurement Experience creating or governing enterprise data inventories, data maps, lineage documentation, system-owner matrices and recurring stewardship or certification processes. Experience supporting privacy, DSAR, records-management, regulatory-compliance or other data-lifecycle programs involving multiple business systems, vendors and data domains. Demonstrated experience defining ownership and governance for personal data, identity matching, authoritative and downstream systems, retention, deletion, suppression, archives and derived datasets. Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Business Administration, Data Management, Computer Science, Finance, Analytics, or a related field IT WOULD BE IDEAL IF YOU HAVE: MBA or advanced degree in Business Administration, Information Management, Analytics, Data Science, or related discipline Experience with Databricks, Salesforce Data360, Tableau, enterprise data catalogs, metadata platforms, and modern MDM solutions. Experience supporting AI governance, data ethics, privacy programs, and enterprise analytics initiatives, including privacy-rights or DSAR operating models. Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), DCAM, or similar governance certification preferred. Experience within SaaS, healthcare technology, education technology, or other regulated industries preferred. Experience implementing or operating enterprise data catalogs, automated data discovery, privacy-request management, consent/preference management or DSAR workflow platforms. Experience with retention schedules, deletion and de-identification controls, durable suppression, legal holds, customer-controlled data and vendor/subprocessor data flows. Experience preparing data-governance controls and evidence for internal audit, external audit, regulatory review or customer diligence.
