Establish nutrition diagnoses and determine nutrition risk or degree of malnutrition. Develop and implement Medical Nutrition Therapy to address nutrition diagnoses. Evaluate and monitor the effectiveness and outcomes of Medical Nutrition Therapy interventions. Modify nutrition care plans as needed to support positive patient outcomes. Calculate nutrient requirements and necessary diet restrictions. Identify food and drug interactions and tailor diet prescriptions to individual patient needs. Document Medical Nutrition Therapy in the medical record using ADIME format. Function independently and accurately when maintaining records. Identify patients needing nutritional support and recommend the appropriate mode of support. Communicate appropriately with the health care team regarding nutrition support needs. Participate in formal and informal interdisciplinary team meetings. Assess educational needs and provide nutrition education and counseling to individuals and groups. Use virtual care technology to improve access to care. Maintain productivity standards and accurate records of daily clinical activities. Complete patient encounters using approved systems. Support continuous improvement of safe and quality Veteran care. Lead implementation of new initiatives and use data to develop measures, evaluate results, and initiate corrective actions. Comply with Joint Commission requirements and other accrediting agency standards. Collaborate with Food Operations and department leadership to improve the Veterans' dining experience and support patient satisfaction. Serve as a liaison between clinical units and the Food Operations Section. Perform other related duties appropriate to the grade and assignment. Basic Qualifications: Must be a U.S. Citizen. Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited in accordance with VA policy. Must be proficient in written and spoken English. Must be a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist or Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration, unless appointed under the GS-7 or GS-9 temporary non-credentialed dietitian exception. Non-credentialed dietitians appointed under the exception must have a bachelor's degree or higher from a U.S. regionally accredited college or university, or foreign equivalent accepted under ACEND standards. Non-credentialed dietitians must have completed an ACEND-accredited experiential or supervised practice program and have verification of eligibility to take the CDR registration exam. Creditable experience must involve knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with current professional dietetic practice. Must be subject to a background/security investigation. Selective Service registration is required for males born after December 31, 1959. Must complete all application requirements and online onboarding requirements. Must provide acceptable identification for employment eligibility verification. Must participate in the seasonal influenza vaccination program as required for Department of Veterans Affairs health care personnel. GS-9 Qualification Requirements: Must have at least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level; or Must have a master's degree from a regionally accredited university or college. Must demonstrate knowledge of accrediting and regulatory requirements. Must demonstrate knowledge of virtual technology to provide nutrition care. Must be able to deliver patient care using the Nutrition Care Process. Must be able to apply evidence-based nutrition practices to improve patient outcomes. Must be able to develop patient-centered goals. Must be able to collect data for performance improvement studies. Must be able to collaborate with stakeholders. GS-11 Qualification Requirements: Must have at least one year of experience as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist equivalent to the next lower grade. Must demonstrate skill in delivering patient care using the Nutrition Care Process. Must demonstrate skill in interpreting research and applying evidence-based nutrition practices to improve patient outcomes. Must demonstrate skill in developing patient-centered goals. Must demonstrate skill in analyzing data for performance improvement studies. Must demonstrate skill in collaborating with stakeholders. Must be able to comply with accrediting, regulatory, and agency authorities. GS-11 is the full performance level of this vacancy. Preferred Experience: Valid state driver's license preferred. Education: Education must be from an institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Foreign education must meet ACEND international dietitian education standards if used for Dietitian qualification requirements. Transcripts must be submitted if using education to qualify.
