A confidential metals manufacturing company is seeking a Lab Technician for its 3rd shift analytical laboratory operation. This position is responsible for preparing and testing metal samples, operating laboratory instrumentation, and accurately reporting analytical results in accordance with established laboratory procedures.

Candidates with experience in metallurgical laboratories, metals processing, materials testing, or similar industrial laboratory environments are strongly preferred. Food, biological, and clinical laboratory experience alone is not considered directly relevant to this position.

1. Job Summary

The Lab Technician supports the analytical laboratory by performing sample preparation, instrument standardization, analytical testing, and data reporting. This position tests material samples from melting furnaces, ingot slices, receiving inspection, and special analytical requests to provide accurate and timely metals chemistry results.

The ideal candidate has at least one year of relevant laboratory experience, basic chemistry knowledge, and hands-on experience working with metals or material samples in an industrial environment.

2. Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Laboratory Testing

• Perform accurate and timely analytical testing of metal and material samples.

• Test samples from melting furnaces, ingot slices, receiving inspection, and special analytical requests.

• Perform sample collection, preparation, analysis, and reporting in accordance with Standard Laboratory Procedures.

• Verify sample identification and confirm applicable testing requirements.

• Ensure required analyses are completed accurately and within established timelines.

Laboratory Instrumentation

• Operate laboratory instrumentation used for metals chemistry and material analysis.

• Standardize and calibrate instruments according to established laboratory procedures.

• Perform routine equipment checks and basic maintenance.

• Identify equipment or testing issues and escalate concerns appropriately.

Sample Management

• Prepare metal samples for analytical testing.

• Track sample location and progress throughout the testing process.

• Maintain accurate sample identification and traceability.

• Coordinate testing priorities with other laboratory technicians and internal customers.

Data & Reporting

• Accurately record and report analytical testing results.

• Maintain laboratory records and testing documentation.

• Review results for completeness and accuracy before reporting.

• Assist internal and external laboratory customers with analytical testing requirements as appropriate.

3. Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar laboratory environment .

• Basic knowledge of chemistry.

• Hands-on experience with laboratory testing, sample preparation, or analytical instrumentation.

• Ability to accurately follow laboratory procedures and testing requirements.

• Ability to work independently during 3rd shift hours.

• Strong attention to accuracy when handling samples and reporting analytical results.

Preferred

• Additional college, technical, or laboratory-related education.

• Metallurgical laboratory experience.

• Metals processing or materials testing experience.

• Previous analytical laboratory experience.

• Experience collecting, preparing, and testing metal samples.

• Experience operating analytical instrumentation used for metals or materials testing.

• Manufacturing or industrial laboratory experience.

4. Physical Requirements

• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment while working in laboratory and manufacturing environments.

5. Working Conditions

• On-site position in Morgantown, Pennsylvania.

• 3rd shift: 12:00 AM 8:00 AM.

• Analytical laboratory within a metals manufacturing environment.

• Regular interaction with laboratory personnel and manufacturing operations.

• Required adherence to laboratory, quality, environmental, and safety procedures.
