Bus Priority Analyst

Transit Development (TD) within the Division of Transportation Planning & Management (TPM) is responsible for developing public‑transit‑supportive street infrastructure and policies to improve mobility for all New Yorkers. The unit manages the Better Buses initiative and other transit policy initiatives and develops location‑specific projects to aid the quality and safety of bus operations and to improve pedestrian access to transit. Position Overview TD seeks to hire a Bus Priority Analyst who reports to the Assistant Director of Bus Priority. The analyst will advance key initiatives related to the planning, design, and implementation of bus priority projects to improve the speed and reliability of bus operations on New York City streets. Responsibilities Advance key initiatives related to the planning, design, and implementation of bus priority projects to improve speed and reliability of bus operations. Contribute to proposals to improve bus service on identified corridors using the NYC DOT toolkit, including bus lanes, queue jumps, bulbs, boarding islands, curb management, and pedestrian safety improvements. Conduct data analysis, including evaluations of bus priority projects, GIS mapping, and other technical traffic analysis. Conduct outreach with the general public, work with community boards and other public stakeholders in public workshops, presentations, and other settings. Collaborate within the TD unit, with other DOT staff, and with city, state, and federal agencies (particularly MTA). Qualifications A master’s degree in transportation engineering, mathematics, urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture, urban studies, or related physical and social science fields; or A bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college with at least one year of full‑time satisfactory experience performing technical work on roadway transportation and traffic studies and area‑wide traffic programs; or A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with at least two years of full‑time satisfactory experience in the above; or An associate degree or completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college with at least four years of full‑time satisfactory experience in the above; or A four‑year high school diploma or its educational equivalent with at least six years of full‑time satisfactory experience in the above. Preferred Skills Experience working on transportation or urban planning–related projects, with strong design, data, and outreach skills. Proficiency in geographic data collection and analysis, particularly in the ArcGIS suite. Experience with traffic analysis. Familiarity with transit‑oriented street design. Capacity for problem‑solving. Experience with CAD and/or graphic design software. Assignment Level To be assigned to Assignment Level II, an additional year of relevant experience is required. For Assignment Level III, an additional two years of relevant experience is required. Position Details Hours/Shift : Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. Work Location : 55 Water Street, New York, NY 10041. Remote Work : Eligible for up to 2 days per week under the Remote Work Pilot Program. New hires must reside in NYC for the first two years of employment.
