Heavy Equipment Shop Mechanic - Richmond

Job Title: Heavy Equipment Shop Mechanic - Richmond

Major Role and Purpose:

  • The primary responsibilities of this position are to diagnose and repair heavy highway, trucks, grading, and asphalt equipment and maintenance issues.

Description of Duties :

  • Ensure a safe work environmentin compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
  • Perform repairs and overhaul of the varioushighway, grading and asphalt equipment, pumps, air compressors, transmissions, controls, and accessories, etc.
  • Test equipment following repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with operating specifications.
  • Perform repairsandpreventive maintenance practices necessary to increase the service life of the equipment.
  • Prepare required documentation including work orders and parts lists in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Notify the Shop Foremanwhen problems arise.
  • Perform all other duties deemed necessary or assigned.

Education:

  • High School Diploma / GED.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience with heavy equipment preferred.

Skills Required

  • Effective communication and organization skills.
  • Diagnose and repair heavy grading and paving equipment.
  • Experienced with diesel engines, hydraulic components, and electrical systems.
  • Able to perform repairs in accordance with OSHA safety regulations.
  • Virginia State Inspection license desirable but not required.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License in good standing.
  • Mechanical aptitude.

Physical Demands:

  • Job requires the following motions: climbing, bending, squatting, pushing, pulling, vibrating, and reaching.
  • Requires lifting up to 50lbs.
  • Overtime work is required.
  • Potential exposure to extremes of hot or cold weather.
