Job Title: Lead Engine Mechanic Job Description

This role leads complex overhauls of large natural gas compression and power-generating engines in a clean, well-organized shop environment. The Lead Engine Mechanic disassembles, diagnoses, repairs, and reassembles large-scale engines, primarily Caterpillar, Superior, and Waukesha models, while coaching and developing less-experienced mechanics.

• Perform complete overhauls of large-scale natural gas engines, including full disassembly, inspection, diagnosis, repair, and reassembly.
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues on Caterpillar, Superior, and Waukesha natural gas compression and power-generating engines such as C18, C30, Cat 3500, Cat 3600 (including 3608 and 3612), Waukesha 7042, and Waukesha 7044.
• Use OD and ID micrometers and other precision measuring tools to verify tolerances and ensure components meet specifications.
• Interpret and work from engine schematics, technical manuals, and repair documentation to plan and execute repairs and overhauls.
• Lead and mentor a team of mechanics by providing hands-on training, guidance, and technical support to less-experienced technicians.
• Coordinate and perform engine commissioning activities to ensure engines operate safely, efficiently, and in accordance with performance requirements.
• Collaborate with machinists, welders, and warehouse staff to plan workflow and ensure timely completion of engine overhauls and repairs.
• Support a safe and organized work environment by following shop procedures, using appropriate PPE, and maintaining clean work areas.
• Communicate repair findings, parts needs, and job status clearly to internal stakeholders to support scheduling and production goals.
• Assist with continuous improvement of overhaul processes, tooling usage, and repair methods to enhance quality and efficiency.

• 10+ years of hands-on experience working with natural gas compression engines.
• Proven experience as a Lead Mechanic or in a supervisory capacity in an engine overhaul or repair shop.
• Extensive experience overhauling large natural gas engines from manufacturers such as Caterpillar, Superior, and Waukesha.
• Demonstrated proficiency performing full engine overhauls in a shop environment, including disassembly, inspection, repair, and reassembly.
• Strong ability to use OD and ID micrometers and other precision measurement tools accurately.
• Experience reading and interpreting engine schematics and technical repair documentation.
• Background working on large Caterpillar engine platforms such as C18, C30, Cat 3500, and Cat 3600 series engines.
• Experience with natural gas compression and power-generating engine applications.
• Capability to coach, train, and support less-experienced mechanics in a hands-on environment.

• Experience commissioning large engines after overhaul or installation.
• Welding experience in an industrial or heavy equipment environment.
• Machining experience or familiarity working closely with CNC and manual machinists.
• Industrial generator experience, particularly in power generation applications.
• Prior experience working for or with major engine or equipment companies such as Caterpillar, Superior, Waukesha, or similar organizations.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and quality.
• Ability to work additional hours when production demands require it.

The role is based in a large, clean, and highly organized manufacturing shop with multiple dedicated bays, including areas for mechanics, welding, disassembly, machining, shipping and receiving, and tooling. The facility operates as an open-air, non-climate-controlled environment supported by large fans for airflow. You work alongside a collaborative team that includes mechanics, warehouse staff, CNC and manual machinists, welders, and painters. Standard work hours are on first shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the option to start as early as 5:00 a.m. or 6:00 a.m. and the typical opportunity to work up to approximately 50 hours per week, depending on production needs; there is no night shift. The dress code includes steel-toe footwear, jeans, a work shirt, and safety glasses, reflecting a safety-focused, hands-on industrial environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Deer Park, TX.

The pay range for this position is $46.00 - $52.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
