About This Role The RN Lactation Consultant in the Obstetrical Department provides direct patient care to mothers and infants, focusing on lactation support and education. This role is ideal for nurses with expertise in breastfeeding and neonatal care. Highlights Location: Buffalo, NY Facility: Golisano Children's Hospital Schedule: Per‑Diem, Variable hours What You’ll Do Deliver direct patient care utilizing the Nursing Process for obstetrical and neonatal health needs. Collaborate with health professionals to coordinate patient care. Provide direction to non-licensed personnel within the department. Apply the nursing process in the care of breastfeeding mothers and infants. Focus on clinical assessment and support of lactation needs. Encourage, educate, and consult with patients and families. Assess learning needs and develop educational plans. Teach and counsel staff, patients, and family members. Evaluate the effectiveness of instruction. Requirements Education Graduate of an accredited program in nursing required Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing or Specialty certification required Lactation Consultant – American Academy of Pediatric NRP within one year Registered Nurse upon hire required IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) preferred; must be obtained within two years if absent upon bidding CLC (Certified Lactation Counselor) is the second preference if IBCLC is absent Experience 1 year of experience in RN position in Mother Baby, Lactation, NICU, or Labor & Delivery within past 3 years required Licenses & Certifications American Heart Association-Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire and must be maintained thereafter Existing WCHOB RNs must acquire BLS certification as part of training and orientation About Kaleida Health Kaleida Health is a leading healthcare provider committed to delivering exceptional patient care.
