Assistant Controller

AmeriStaff Employment and Staffing Solutions is seeking an Assistant Controller in Ridgeway, VA . This position will support the company's accounting, financial, and administrative operations in a manufacturing environment while helping ensure accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and meaningful operational financial analysis. Pay of the Assistant Controller: $85,000-$100,000 annual salary Responsibilities of the Assistant Controller: Enter and maintain accurate general ledger transactions, prepare routine journal entries, and reconcile bank and assigned balance-sheet accounts. Maintain supporting schedules, organized accounting files, and documentation while researching and resolving accounting discrepancies. Coordinate monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and prepaid expenses. Ensure financial statements and management reports are complete, accurate, and delivered on a timely basis. Analyze financial results, gross margin, operating expenses, working capital, inventory turns, and other key financial metrics. Assist with annual financial statement audits, tax-related requirements, and management-requested financial analyses. Oversee accounting for raw materials, work-in-process, finished goods, inventory, and manufacturing variances. Monitor and analyze material, labor, overhead, production costs, product costing, and standard costing processes. Reconcile inventory subledgers to the general ledger, investigate discrepancies, and support physical inventory and cycle counts. Help management understand product margins, profitability, production variances, and manufacturing cost drivers. Oversee accounts receivable activities, including invoicing, cash application, aging, collections, customer credit exposure, and bad-debt reserves. Oversee accounts payable processes, including coding, approvals, payment controls, vendor issues, cash requirements, and cash forecasting. Develop, implement, and maintain effective accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, segregation of duties, and approval controls. Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, automation, reporting, efficiency, and ERP/accounting system functionality. Requirements for the Assistant Controller: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting experience. Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP. Experience with month-end close and financial statement preparation. Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience with ERP/accounting systems. Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work independently while partnering effectively with Operations and other departments. High level of attention to detail and accuracy. Hands-on, analytical, detail-oriented, and process-improvement-minded approach. Preferred Experience: Manufacturing accounting experience. Experience with inventory and cost accounting, including product costing and production variances. Experience with gross-margin analysis. Experience in a privately held or middle-market manufacturing company.
