Job Title: Forklift Operator
Job Description
This role focuses on safely and efficiently operating forklifts and related equipment in a food production facility to support the movement, storage, and shipment of finished and bulk products. The Forklift Operator handles loading and unloading trucks and railcars, places materials according to the facility's inventory system, and supports consistent, high-quality production while following Good Manufacturing Practices and food safety standards.
Responsibilities

• Operate an electrically powered lift truck safely and efficiently to load and unload trucks and railcars carrying finished product, bulk product, fiber, and other materials needed for facility operations.
• Put finished product away in the distribution building from the production lines, ensuring accurate placement according to the facility inventory system.
• Pick orders for shipment, stage orders properly, and prepare them for timely and accurate outbound delivery.
• Stack and retrieve bulk product as needed to support production and distribution activities.
• Utilize Turn-a-Fork and slip sheet attachments to maximize departmental efficiency and product handling accuracy.
• Safely operate manual and automatic dock plates to support loading and unloading activities.
• Use the glad-hand lock system on all trailer braking systems and chock all trailers as necessary to maintain a safe working environment.
• Follow all facility Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and safe food handling directives at all times.
• Collaborate with other lift truck operators and supervisors to ensure proper and efficient movement of all products throughout the facility.
• Assist the Distribution Group Leader with loading outbound loads and ensuring shipments meet quality and accuracy standards.
• Use RF scanning units to track and manage product movement through the facility and maintain accurate inventory records.
• Change lift truck batteries in a safe and efficient manner to minimize downtime and maintain productivity.
• Help produce the highest quality finished product by supporting consistent, accurate material handling and storage.
• Adhere to all company Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and contribute to a culture of food safety and quality.
• Demonstrate a personal commitment to safety by following all safety procedures and encouraging safe practices among team members.
• Report any food safety, health and safety, or quality issues promptly and initiate action as necessary to resolve them.
• Perform general production, material handling, stockroom, and warehouse support tasks as needed.
• Carry out all other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support overall facility operations.

Essential Skills

• Experience operating a forklift in a warehouse, distribution, or production environment.
• Experience with order selection and order picking for shipment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds comfortably on a regular basis.
• Ability to be on your feet for an 8-hour shift.
• Prior production experience in a manufacturing or food production facility.
• Proficiency in material handling, including loading, unloading, and stacking products.
• Ability to operate sit-down forklifts, stand-up forklifts, reach trucks, and pallet jacks as needed.
• Experience with shipping and receiving processes and documentation.
• Ability to use RF scanners to track inventory and product movement.
• Demonstrated commitment to following safety procedures, GMPs, and safe food handling directives.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with cherry pickers and other warehouse equipment.
• Experience in packaging, production work, and general labor in a distribution or manufacturing setting.
• Familiarity with Turn-a-Fork and slip sheet attachments or willingness to learn.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills to work effectively with supervisors and other lift truck operators.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and support multiple areas, including shipping, receiving, and production.
• Willingness to learn new roles such as machine operation, quality, or maintenance as growth opportunities arise.

This is a Permanent position based out of BROCKPORT, NY.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.21 - $20.21/hr.
