Position Overview Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections – Corrections Services, David Wade Correctional Center, Homer, LA. Role Summary We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Corrections Captain to provide strong leadership and operational oversight in a secure correctional environment. This position plays a key role in maintaining safety and security, guiding and developing correctional staff, and ensuring that daily institutional operations run efficiently and professionally. Responsibilities Ensures all staffing needs are consistently met by monitoring daily schedules, adjusting post assignments, authorizing overtime when necessary, and coordinating with command staff to maintain adequate coverage across all operational areas. Ensures all facility policies, procedures, and operational standards are properly implemented and followed by conducting routine inspections, reviewing staff performance, and reinforcing compliance through coaching, corrective action, and ongoing oversight. Conducts roll calls and shift briefings as needed, providing staff with critical updates, post assignments, safety information, and operational expectations to ensure a well‑informed and prepared team. Conducts performance evaluations and planning sessions with subordinate officers, offering constructive feedback, identifying training needs, setting professional development goals, and documenting progress in accordance with agency guidelines. Qualifications Three years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security. One year of experience in a position equivalent in scope of responsibility or complexity of work performed to a Corrections Lieutenant in the State service. Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR one year of experience in any field; OR six months of law‑enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and possess a current driver’s license. Special Requirements An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted. An applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse, engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force or coercion, or for whom the victim did not consent will be disqualified under the PREA. Position‑Specific Details Appointment Type: Permanent, classified employee of LA DPS & C – Corrections Services (Adult DOC). An employee selected for detail may be permanently promoted to this position if a position becomes available. Compensation Special Entrance Rate: $24.64 per hour. Premium pay: between $0.50 and $1.00 per hour, based on years of service with DOC, in addition to regular pay. Any degree, certificate, special license, or DD‑214 must be verified by official documentation prior to hire. Any qualifying experience that is based on college credit or college hours should have an accompanying transcript for verification. This is a 24‑hour facility.
