Welcome to GEN Brooklyn!
Located in the heart of Prospect Heights, GEN has been part of the Brooklyn community since 2004, serving Japanese food in a warm, relaxed neighborhood setting.
Today, we are entering an exciting new chapter as we evolve toward GEN Japanese Izakaya —a fresh expression of the Japanese izakaya experience, shaped here in Brooklyn.
Our atmosphere may be casual, but our approach to food is serious.
We are raising our standards across the kitchen—from ingredients, preparation, technique, and consistency to the way each dish is presented and ultimately experienced by our guests. Our goal is simple: to serve food with a level of care and execution that goes far beyond what guests might expect from a casual neighborhood restaurant.
Our evolving menu brings together Japanese comfort food, izakaya dishes, sushi, seasonal ingredients, and a new ramen program.
At the heart of this next chapter is OMOTENASHI —the Japanese spirit of thoughtful hospitality and genuinely caring for the person in front of you.
For us, OMOTENASHI does not belong only in the dining room. It begins in the kitchen—with respect for ingredients, attention to detail, consistency, cleanliness, teamwork, and pride in every plate that leaves the pass.
We are looking for a Line Cook / Sushi Cook who takes their craft seriously, wants to keep learning, and is excited to help build something meaningful with us.
Experience with Japanese cuisine is strongly preferred, and experience with sushi and/or ramen is a plus . Just as important are curiosity, discipline, reliability, attention to detail, and the willingness to learn and grow as part of a small, committed team.
We are not looking for someone who simply wants to fill a position.
