Freelance Software Engineer

We're working with a Germany-based legal-tech startup building a platform that helps law firms and in‑house legal teams automate contract review, clause extraction, and compliance checking. They are looking for a hands‑on engineer to help build and scale the product layer that sits on top of their AI services - not just prototype features. The focus will be on designing and maintaining the API layer that orchestrates calls to LLM services, streaming responses to the frontend, and ensuring the platform is fast, reliable, and production‑ready. Responsibilities Build and maintain backend services and APIs using Node.js and Express Integrate and orchestrate third‑party AI APIs (primarily OpenAI) into product workflows Design and implement real‑time streaming pipelines to deliver LLM responses to the frontend Take ownership of technical features from concept through to production Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to solve real customer problems Requirements Strong commercial experience with Node.js and Express Experience integrating and working with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar) Solid understanding of streaming architectures (WebSockets, Server‑Sent Events, etc.) Ability to lead technical decisions and work independently Familiarity with AI concepts and LLM‑powered product development #J-18808-Ljbffr HartleyCo
