Position Summary

The primary duty of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) at Trident EMS is to assess, treat, and transport patients entrusted to their care. Working in coordination with the Dispatch Team, EMTs respond to both emergency and non-emergency requests while prioritizing patient care, effective communication, accurate documentation, and patient safety. EMTs are expected to provide high-quality patient care, maintain operational readiness, and represent Trident EMS in a professional manner at all times. 

EMTs needed in Lake, Volusia, and Polk counties 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Provide emergency and non-emergency medical transportation services. 
• Demonstrate sound judgment and prioritize public safety while operating and positioning ambulance units. 
• Utilize appropriate techniques, resources, and equipment to assess and treat patients. 
• Perform patient assessments and provide treatment within the EMT scope of practice. 
• Package, move, and transport patients safely and efficiently. 
• Complete accurate patient care reports, transportation records, and other required documentation in a timely manner. 
• Maintain a comprehensive understanding of current standards of care, medical equipment operation, and agency protocols. 
• Adhere to all company policies, safety procedures, and infection-control practices. 
• Prioritize the safety and well-being of patients, coworkers, healthcare personnel, and the public. 
• Establish and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, EMS partners, hospitals, and members of the public. 
• Maintain cleanliness, organization, and operational readiness of ambulance units and equipment after each response. 
• Ensure vehicles remain properly maintained and stocked with necessary medical supplies. 
• Report damaged, missing, or malfunctioning equipment immediately through established channels. 
• Fulfill assigned station duties and maintain crew quarters in a clean and orderly condition. 
• Maintain a professional appearance, personal hygiene, and courteous demeanor while on duty. 
• Treat all patients, coworkers, and members of the public with dignity, courtesy, and respect. 

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age. 
• High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required. 
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English proficiently. 
• Ability to pass a physical evaluation, including lifting and moving up to 125 pounds. 
• Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and emergency assignments.
• Ability to function effectively in high-stress situations and make sound decisions under pressure.
• Demonstrated commitment to patient-centered care and professionalism.

Licensure and Certifications

The following credentials are required and must be maintained throughout employment:

• Active Florida Department of Health Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) License. 
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers. 
• Valid Florida Class "E" Driver License. 

Preferred Certifications

• Commercial Emergency Vehicle Operator (CEVO) Certification. 
• Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) Certification. 

Certification Maintenance Requirement

Employees are responsible for maintaining all required licenses, certifications, credentials, continuing education requirements, and driver qualifications necessary to perform the duties of their position. All required credentials must remain active, valid, and in good standing and must be renewed prior to expiration.

Failure to maintain required credentials may result in removal from duty, reassignment, disciplinary action, suspension, or termination of employment. 

Physical Requirements

• Lift, carry, push, and pull patients and equipment weighing up to 125 pounds with assistance when appropriate. 
• Regularly bend, kneel, crouch, stoop, climb, and reach.
• Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
• Perform duties in varying weather and environmental conditions.
• Operate emergency and non-emergency vehicles safely and professionally.

Work Environment

EMTs may be exposed to:

• Infectious diseases and bodily fluids.
• Physically demanding patient movement activities.
• Emergency scenes and stressful situations.
• Adverse weather conditions.
• Extended shifts, nights, weekends, and holiday schedules.
