Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Surgical Specialty Specialty: FS Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 1 year of acute care surgical floor experience. License: Current RN License issued by the state board of nursing or a current multistate compact RN license (eNLC). Certifications: Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association. Must-Have: Stepdown/PCU experience required. Description: Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex. Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients. Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments. Notes all changes in physician orders for assigned patients. Assists physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments. Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients. Observes the physiological manifestations of patients and intervenes when necessary. Administers medication as prescribed. Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products. Delivers patient care competently. Interacts with patients and families to share care plans while in the hospital and at discharge. Informs patients and families of hospital procedures. Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel. Delegates tasks to support staff. Performs other duties as assigned. Nurses for this unit need Med Surg experience as this floor has inpatients pre or post-surgical services. Experience is needed in caring for patients with new drains, wounds, trachs, ostomies, NGT, or DHT. Some patients may require Stepdown care. Patient-to-nurse ratios are 5:1 for surgical patients and 3:1 for Stepdown area. Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures is required. Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques. Ability to maintain good working relationships with other employees. Good verbal and written communication skills are essential. Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors. Some computer skills are also required. Preferred education includes a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or higher from a board-approved program.
