Schedule: Mon Fri. 7am 4pm. Every other Sat. 7am 12:30pm

Description: The primary role of a blood extraction technician is to aid in carrying out various assigned tasks, problem solving, providing training, and suggesting improvements in work processes.

Responsibilities:

Hands-on experience with blood extractions, specimen labeling, specimen centrifugation, data recording and decontamination, updating patient records, etc. Retrieves and stores specimens according to established protocols.

Clearly and politely explains the venipuncture (blood drawing) process or other specimen collection procedures to patients. Demonstrates proficiency with straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Thoroughly understands all physician orders. Matches requisition forms to specimen tubes. Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as per test orders.

Verifies all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.

Prepares specimens for transport. Ensures proper storage of specimens at required temperatures, places them in suitable containers/tubes, labels accurately, follows specified procedures for transport, and complies with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attends annual department trainings. Handles phone inquiries and reads lab results when needed.

Requirements:

Active Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment where mandatory. At least 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a busy lab or hospital setting. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GED
