Field Auditor I (Performance Audits) • Job Code: 2600031L • Posting Number: 2026-12 • Salary: $56,000.00 - $65,000.00 (Grade 10) • Locations: Boston, Lawrence, Quincy, Brockton, Marlboro, Chicopee OSA offices (please indicate your preference when applying). • Full-time, Day shift. • Potentially Eligible for a Hybrid Work Schedule: Yes The Office of the State Auditor (OSA) conducts performance audits of state agencies, departments, programs, and contractors to identify opportunities, provide recommendations, and improve government operations through accountability, efficiency, effectiveness, and transparency. General Statement of Duties Field Auditors perform audits of state government entities and contractors. After initial training, they are assigned to audits within a region and, under supervision of an Auditor-in-charge, perform audit-related tasks such as testing, preparing electronic work papers, participating in meetings and interviews, applying analytical skills to assess documents and records, and preparing written documents. Field Auditors must travel to audit sites within the state and complete all assigned work timely and professionally in accordance with OSA policies and Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS). At audit completion, they undergo an evaluation of performance, compliance with GAGAS, and professionalism. Minimum Qualifications Strong oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access (experience with TeamMate audit software is a preference). Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills with critical and creative thinking. Self‑starter who follows through with tasks within established timeframes with minimal supervision. Strong collaboration, interpersonal, and relationship skills. Sound judgment. No prior work experience required, though preference may be given to those with relevant experience or strengths in critical thinking and analytical reasoning. Training on auditing techniques will be provided. Reliable transportation and valid Massachusetts driver’s license with a safe driving record. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, public administration, mathematics, statistics, computer science, or a similar concentration demonstrating strong analytical skills. Experience in auditing, especially performance auditing. Demonstrated leadership potential. Experience in program evaluation. Experience using computer‑based research tools and other information sources. Experience in interviewing, writing reports, giving presentations, and conducting research. Advanced degree or professional certification. Working knowledge of GAGAS. Knowledge of state government operations.
