Unit: Facilities Operations Admin Department: Facilities Ops Admin Duties & Responsibilities VCU’s Facilities Management Department is seeking to hire a Plumber for Facilities Operations . The Plumber is responsible for all reactive and preventativemaintenance throughout the Residential Life and Housing facilities. In addition, this position would be designated and essential foremergencies, including inclement weather. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Utilize knowledge of the plumbing trade to perform preventivemaintenance, repair and installation of building infrastructureensuring efficient operation of Residential Life and Housingfacilities Provide exemplary customer service to all faculty, staff andstudents supporting the University’s mission of teaching,high-impact research and creative expression Identify and document system deficiencies using diagnostictools and advise management of tasks requiring priorityattention Provide quality workmanship and service to maximize systemavailability and minimize unscheduled downtime Reactive/Service Work Independently respond to service requests requiring diagnosisand repair of various building infrastructure, supply and wastesystems, plumbing fixtures, including sinks, water closets, showers/tubs, drinking fountains, pumps, and otherplumbing/mechanical systems utilizing specialized knowledge ofplumbing theory and practice Independently respond to service requests requiring diagnosisand repair of appliances, carpentry, electrical, and mechanicalsystems Preventive Maintenance Independently perform and complete regularly scheduledpreventive maintenance to various building infrastructure, such as pumps, plumbing fixates, roof drains and other plumbing relatedcomponents Customer Service/Teamwork Works in a collaborative and collegial manner throughout thedepartment, division, and University Interact with others to collectively resolve problems,accomplish mutual goals, and foster an atmosphere of trust Share information and ideas to improve customer service andpromote Facilities Management’s goals Listens to and anticipates customer needs; provides clearexplanations; responds quickly; takes initiative to assist internaland external customers Communicates respectfully to internal and external customers;appreciates diversity and respects differences Communication and Monitoring Work of Others Advise supervision and or management by recommending equipmentmaintenance tasks and identifying equipment needing priorityattention Communicate orally and in writing regarding work schedules,system problems, estimated completion times and effects of systemproblems on occupant safety and comfort Work with lesser skilled team members in the various techniquesof the trades to increase their skill level and ability to workindependently Use trade knowledge to monitor work of contractors to assurecompliance with specifications, codes and drawings Designated/Other Duties as Assigned Other duties as assigned Work/on-call during inclement weather and emergencies Assume on-call responsibility on a rotating basis Substitutes for the Superintendent, including time cardapproval and work site management Computer Skills/AiM Utilize computer skills to access email and researchparts/information as required Demonstrate working knowledge of AiM and AiM GO ensuring promptcompletion of work requests and time card entry following allestablished work flow processes, including notes logs for all workrequests over 30 days Organize Mechanical Areas Clean and organize materials in the Shop and mechanicalareas Participates in periodic cleaning of shop Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications State of Virginia Journeyman Plumbing and Backflow PreventionDevice License required or the ability to obtain within the firstyear of employment Minimum of 5 years’ experience in commercial/institutionalplumbing and mechanical maintenance Ability to diagnose, repair, service and install a wide varietyof plumbing and mechanical systems Ability to communicate orally and in writing to supervision,other employees and customers Knowledge of appropriate building codes Ability to read/interpret drawings, plans, specifications andscopes Ability to use a wide variety of hand tools and powerequipment High School diploma or GED required Valid Virginia Driver’s License required Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment ofrespect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty,staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or acommitment to do so as a staff member at VCU Salary Range: $65,000 - $69,000 ($31.25/hr - $33.17/hr) + upto $2,500 Sign-on Bonus Benefits All full-time university staff are eligible for VCU’s robust benefits package that includes comprehensive health benefits, paid annual and holiday leave, generous tuition benefits, retirement planning and savings options, tax-deferred annuity and cash match programs, employee discounts, well-being resources, abundant opportunities for career development and advancement, and more.
