Practical Nurse

Provides basic direct practical nursing care to inmates in the County Jail.

Job duties include administering and dispensing prescribed medications, preparing treatment carts, responding to medical emergencies, taking recordings of vital signs, charting information on patient's health status records and medication logs, maintaining inventory records of medications, supplies and equipment, and assisting with maintaining the cleanliness of the work area.

Minimum qualifications include a State of Washington or Compact (multi-state) Practical Nurse License, successful completion of National Association of Practical Nursing Education and Service, Inc. (NAPNES) Medication Course, being a United States citizen, a lawful permanent resident, or a deferred action for childhood arrival (DACA) recipient, one (1) year with medication administration, passing job related tests, successfully passing a criminal history background investigation, a polygraph examination and a psychological evaluation and pre-employment drug screening, being at least 21 years old at the time of application, and maintaining Practical Nurse certification and license as required by applicable statutes.

Knowledge and abilities include practical nurse principles, practices and concepts, basic problem-solving methods, clinic medications, utilizing basic problem-solving skills, working and effectively communicating with inmates and co-workers, utilizing practical nursing knowledge and apply nursing techniques, following oral and written instructions, keeping records and preparing reports, and promptly and accurately assessing emergency situations.
