Job Title: Emergency Room Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12-Hour Days Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Yes Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, ENPC, NRP, NIHSS Must-Have: TNCC, NIHSS Description: The unit operates as a Level IV Trauma center. On average, the emergency room treats over 35 patients per day. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4. A separate triage area is available, and travelers may be required to assist with triage. Security is present in-house 24/7 within the emergency department. Common diagnoses include abdominal pain, chest pain, fever, cough, dyspnea, headache, and extremity pain. Nurses may administer a variety of common drips including cardiac, antihypertensive, antiarrhythmic, and sedation/analgesia. Nurses are involved in drawing labs and can work alongside phlebotomy staff. Respiratory Therapy is available 24/7 and provides treatments including ABGs, breathing therapies, and EKGs. There are no monitor techs in the emergency room, and RNs are expected to read their own telemetry strips. Self-scheduling and block scheduling options are available. Full and part-time employees are expected to self-schedule a minimum of six weekend shifts in a six-week schedule. Holiday work requirements are also in place. The facility has separate psych/seclusion rooms available. A charge nurse does take an assignment during shifts. Cancellation policies allow for up to four shift cancellations during a 13-week assignment.
