GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
Responsible for maintenance and repair of automotive, construction, and maintenance equipment, both gasoline and diesel-powered. Also acts as an assistant supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform general overall and repair work on light and heavy trucks, gasoline and diesel motors, tractors, construction, and mechanical equipment, and small engine repair.
• Repair and diagnose heavy trucks, engines, hydraulics, electrical, and drivability concerns.

• Transmission/engine overhaul, axle repair, major electrical, light body, complete vehicle overhaul, trailer, and heavy equipment repair/diagnosis.
• Perform routine maintenance on equipment such as changing oil and filters, and tuning engines.
• Maintain shop records and service reports.
• Perform other tasks as assigned.
• Perform supervisors' duties when necessary.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

• Knowledge of the repair and maintenance of heavy trucks and construction equipment.

• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Ability to perform a variety of repair and maintenance tasks.
• Ability to use necessary tools and required skills.
• Ability to perform manual labor.
• Ability to maintain a good working relationship with co-workers and city employees.

• Knowledge of recycling and disposal methods of hazardous chemicals, batteries, and etc.

• Knowledge of standard practices for maintenance of diesel and gasoline-operated equipment.

DRIVER LICENSE
CDL class A required or ability to obtain a class A CDL within 6 months of hire. If a candidate does not have a valid Tennessee driver's license, they must acquire one within 30 days of hire.

EDUCATION
A High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required. Technical School is a plus.

EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 7 years of mechanical experience with gasoline and diesel experience with a majority of experience on diesel engines and heavy equipment.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is also required to reach with hands and arms. An employee must be capable of performing heavy manual labor for extended periods of time. The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this job include depth perception and the ability to focus.
