Fire Safety Coordinator

Overview Fire Safety Coordinator at the University of Florida. Location: Main Campus (Gainesville, FL). Work type: Staff Full-Time. Department: 71010000 - EHS-ENVR - HLTH - SAFETY-ADMIN. Classification: Fire Safety Coordinator. Responsibilities Inspect UF Buildings and Greek life facilities for Fire Code Compliance and prepare reports for correction of code violations. Review Fire Alarm Activity Logs to ensure proper maintenance of fire alarm systems in accordance with UF’s False Alarm Reduction program. Supervise and assist with Enhanced Radio System monitoring of all campus buildings. Provide assistance and oversight to inspections of fire safety-related items in new construction projects. Conduct public outreach for fire safety, including fire extinguisher use training. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required: Associate in Science degree in Fire Science Technology and two (2) years of responsible experience with a governmental agency or private organization, including enforcement or design work to meet fire regulations, fire prevention inspections or development, and fire plan check or design of fire systems; or 10 years as a Fire Marshal with a local municipality or state agency. Must be certified as a Fire Safety Inspector 1 in accordance with Florida Statute 633. Education & Experience (Preferred) Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Building Construction or Business Administration. NICET certification. Five years supervisory experience. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of standard fire codes, blueprint reading and interpretation, construction terminology and techniques. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to interface with professionals such as architects, engineers, and construction workers. Ability to work with database reporting systems to ensure compliance with required codes. Physical Qualifications Repeated bending Climbing Areas of excessive noise Additional Requirements Valid Florida Driver’s License. This position requires a post-offer health assessment. Must attain State Fire Marshal’s Class 1 portable fire equipment servicing permit and Class 4 pre-engineered suppression system servicing permit within the first year of employment (per FSS 633.061). Employee must complete certifications and attain permits within the first year of employment. This position is designated as an Essential Employee for the University, required to respond immediately following an emergency event to continue critical and essential services. Work Schedule Monday – Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, or as approved by supervisor. 40 hours per week. Occasional travel to offsite locations. Commensurate with Education & Experience.
