Travel Respiratory Therapist Job Details

• Position: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
• Assignment Type: 13-week travel respiratory therapy assignment
• Location: Columbus, Ohio
• Healthcare Setting: Pediatric CVPICU and Cardiac Stepdown
• Schedule: Three 12-hour night shifts per week, generally 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
• Hours: Approximately 36 hours per week
• Start Date: December 7, 2026
• Estimated Weekly Pay: $1,890–$2,030
• Patient Population: Infants, pediatric patients, adolescents, and select adult patients
• Unit Capacity: 44 beds with an average daily census of approximately 32
• Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend is generally expected, based on approved time off and unit needs
• Orientation: Approximately 36 hours
• Float Requirement: May include general floors, emergency services, NICU, PICU, and pulmonary units

Registered Respiratory Therapist Job Requirements

• Current Registered Respiratory Therapist credential and an active Ohio respiratory therapist license held in hand before the assignment begins
• Current BLS and PALS certifications
• At least 1 year of relevant respiratory therapy experience required; approximately 2 years of experience preferred
• Recent experience in a pediatric hospital, pediatric critical care, cardiac ICU, or comparable high-acuity setting preferred
• Demonstrated proficiency with Epic or a comparable electronic clinical documentation system; Epic experience is required
• Clinical experience with mechanical ventilation, pediatric respiratory care, and complex cardiopulmonary patients
• Ability to float to other clinical units and adapt to changing patient-care needs
• Two professional references are required, including at least one reference from a manager or supervisor; charge nurse references count as one supervisory reference
• Must be prepared to work an on-site travel assignment and meet applicable travel eligibility requirements

Pediatric Respiratory Therapist Responsibilities

• Provide respiratory care for neonatal through adult patients with congenital or acquired heart disease, heart failure, heart or lung transplants, VAD/ECMO support, tracheostomy and ventilator dependence, and preoperative or postoperative needs
• Assess patients, interpret arterial blood gases, develop and implement respiratory care plans, and evaluate treatment effectiveness
• Manage and troubleshoot ventilators, including Servo-U systems and other pressure- and volume-based ventilation equipment
• Provide care using V60 noninvasive ventilation, high-frequency oscillatory ventilation, nitric oxide, CPAP, BiPAP, HFNC, tracheostomy collars, and other advanced respiratory therapy modalities
• Perform or assist with intubation, extubation, airway placement, oral and nasal suctioning, pulmonary hygiene, chest physiotherapy, and tracheostomy care
• Administer prescribed aerosolized and inhaled therapies, including bronchodilators, corticosteroids, and racemic epinephrine
• Collect sputum specimens and monitor for changes in respiratory status, airway pressures, oxygenation, and ventilation
• Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and the interdisciplinary care team to support safe, evidence-based pediatric cardiac and respiratory care
• Float to assigned units as needed and participate in on-call opportunities for additional shifts when requested
