Associate Director, Student Wellness Promotion Job Title: Associate Director, Student Wellness Promotion Department: Health & Counseling Center Job Code: A42302 Job Category: Full Time Staff Terms and Hours: 11-month position, 0.92 FTE exempt full time. Salary Range: Starting salary at $59,400 for 11-month assignment; commensurate with experience. Job Summary: The Associate Director, Student Wellness oversees the Wellness Education and Prevention Program at the University of Portland and will provide visionary leadership and strategic management of student wellness promotion. This position plays a pivotal role in developing and advancing a culture of holistic well‑being across campus by implementing programming that empowers students to thrive emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually. The Associate Director collaborates with internal and external partners to implement inclusive, data‑driven, and evidence‑informed health promotion strategies addressing key focus areas including emotional well‑being, alcohol and drug education, sleep, nutrition, sexual violence prevention, and general self‑care. In addition to program development and implementation, this position is responsible for supervising staff, strategic planning and assessment, policy development, and budget management. This position reports to the Director of the Health & Counseling Center. This full‑time position works a 11‑month assignment period from July 1 through May 31 with benefits eligibility for all 12 months of the year. Core Duties Lead, develop, and assess comprehensive wellness and prevention initiatives for students, ensuring programming is high‑quality, cost‑effective, and developmentally appropriate. Foster a culture of inclusion through culturally responsive programming and services and advance institutional well‑being strategies in alignment with the university’s Holy Cross mission. Oversee the Wellness Education and Prevention Program which supports peer education and student engagement in health promotion efforts. Develop, implement, and evaluate evidence‑informed initiatives on topics including, but not limited to, alcohol and drug use, sexual health, and emotional well‑being. Provide training and workshops as needed for students, faculty, and staff. Partner with internal and external stakeholders to maintain visibility and impact of student wellness efforts, collaborating with the Health & Counseling Center primary care and counseling services staff. Direct ongoing student health needs and manage wellness assessments, program evaluations and outcomes. Use informed data to shape strategic planning, form policies, and manage resource allocation. Ensure policies minimize risk and align with legal compliance and ethical best practices. Oversee student wellness communications which includes digital content, social media, newsletters, and campus campaigns; ensuring alignment with the University’s Marketing & Communications directives. Manage and collaborate with the Wellness Program Coordinator on virtual education requirements and compliance tracking. In collaboration with Health & Counseling Center Director, strategically manage operational and programming budgets. Work with other University staff, faculty, and administrators in consultation, outreach, and collaborative initiatives as needed. Engage in campus collaboration by serving on campus committees that oversee student care, wellbeing, and mental health. Engage in Health & Counseling Center meetings and development activities; complete special projects as assigned, including policy and procedure development as directed. Supervise staff and student employees who support student wellness promotion. Supervisory responsibilities include hiring processes, setting of expectations, training and professional development, performance management and evaluations, and disciplinary processes including termination of employment. Other duties as relevant to the duties of the position or as assigned by supervisor or designee. Education & Experience Required: Master’s in public health, health promotion, health education or related field. Required: Experience in public health theory, behavioral change models, and environmental management strategies. Strongly preferred: 3 or more years of professional experience in higher education health promotion, inclusive of supervisory experience with progressive growth. Preferred: Prior experience in student peer training, campus‑wide program assessment & evaluations, grant writing, task force management, and/or sexual violence prevention and survivor advocacy. Or equivalent education and/or experience. Certifications & Licenses Preferred: CHES or MCHES certification. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to learn, respect, and contribute to the mission of the University of Portland and the traditions of the Holy Cross. Knowledge, skill, and ability related to implementation of the holistic concept for wellness prevention and promotion. Knowledge of risk reduction in substance use and emotional wellness. Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, guidelines, and best practices relevant to wellness programming. Able to implement appropriate interventions to support student health, wellness, and success, and to continually monitor outcomes of interventions. Strong orientation toward taking initiative and ownership of programs by being proactive with projects, assignments, and process improvements. Ability to consistently handle and follow through with multiple projects and assignments and meet deadlines. Strong critical‑thinking, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills with ability to implement and use sound judgment. Exceptional organizational skills. Ability to work independently but also to constructively receive supervisory direction and work collaboratively and effectively in a team setting. Excellent verbal and written communication skills inclusive of strong presentation and public speaking skills. Strong and effective interpersonal and customer service skills. Able to effectively receive and implement supervisory direction. Ability to work independently as well as in an interdisciplinary team setting. Effective in following required processes, including following documentation requirements. Ability to anticipate problems and take necessary action to eliminate or mitigate them. Competence with and commitment to inclusive excellence; ability to be an effective partner with diverse students, faculty, and staff. Ability to establish effective working relationships, professional rapport, and effectively accomplish work within a University setting that includes a wide array of individuals, groups, policies, and processes. Effective ability to use and learn computers, technology, software, and applications at level of sophistication required for the duties of the position, including, without limitation, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), the internet, and computerized maintenance management systems. All University of Portland positions require the ability to quickly learn and use new technologies, software, and applications in depth and at level of proficiency required for duties of the position. In most situations, the necessity of learning, using, and supporting new technologies, software, and/or applications does not change a job description nor make the position one that involves higher level duties. Physical Requirements Frequently: sit, perform desk‑based computer tasks; read; write by hand; sort and file paperwork; use a telephone. Frequently: stand and walk; twist; lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 25 pounds. Frequently: interact and communicate with others persons (including, but not limited to, students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and friends of the University). As necessary: attend events on or off campus. Working Conditions Hours of employment: may require working flexible hours, including early mornings, regular office hours, evenings, and occasional weekends and holidays. Work‑related stress: stress from work‑related situations such as those involving an emergency, a crisis, a challenging situation, an urgent or time‑sensitive situation, or a situation involving multiple matters.
