Job Purpose As a guardian of the Self‑Checkout area, your primary role is to protect the company against inventory losses or fraud by overseeing the accurate scanning and recording of products at self‑checkout stations. You will actively monitor transactions, address potential issues, and collaborate with leadership to prevent loss. Exceptional customer service is paramount, as you assist and engage with customers, providing guidance on the self‑checkout process and promptly addressing inquiries. Essential Responsibilities Protect against inventory losses or fraud at self‑checkout lanes by providing exceptional customer service and intervening with appropriate responses when necessary (45% of time). Observe self‑checkout transactions diligently to identify any irregularities or suspicious activities. Ensure customers are scanning and bagging items correctly, intervening when necessary to verify the accuracy of scanned items. Respond promptly to Point‑of‑Sale alerts and notifications, investigating any potential issues with transactions or discrepancies in scanned items. Report any incidents of theft, suspicious behavior, or equipment malfunctions to store leadership. Provide outstanding service in the Self‑Checkout lanes according to SEG service standards: provide proactive customer assistance, educate customers on the self‑checkout process to minimize errors, engage customers in a friendly manner, greet, assist, and thank customers with a friendly smile, and monitor lanes for excessive traffic. Keep work area clean, orderly, and free from safety hazards: stock front‑end products, ensure the self‑checkout area is fully stocked with required supplies or tools, clean and sanitize equipment during downtime or immediately when spillage occurs, and return carts to the shopping cart corral. Perform other job‑related duties as assigned. Qualifications High School diploma or GED (Preferred). 0–3 years of supervisory experience (Preferred). Must be at least 18years of age. Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently; knowledge of Spanish is a plus. Compliance with all company policies and procedures; high standard of integrity and reliability. Basic computer skills required for online training. Authorization to work in the United States or ability to obtain such authorization. Successful completion of pre‑employment drug testing and background check. Physical Demands and Environmental Factors As a Self‑Checkout Associate, you will be required to stand or walk on various flooring types, utilize manual dexterity, talk, see, hear, smell, and perform repetitive movements with both hands and/or both feet. You may be required to reach at waist level or overhead, carry or push or lift up to the weights listed, occasionally sit, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb up to 4ft. Exposure may include indoor, outdoor, cold, freezing, heated, wet/humid conditions, loud noise, skin irritants, debris, fumes, hazardous cleaning solutions, and other toxins. You may be required to twist back or neck, walk on a slippery or cluttered floor surface, work with hazardous equipment, and be exposed to sharp objects. Equipment Cleaning supplies and equipment, general office equipment, register, pricing gun, scales, scanner, various material handling equipment (racks, carts, pallet jacks, shopping carts). Preferred equipment includes baler/compactor and box cutter. Personal protective equipment: goggles, gloves, back brace. Lifting requirement: 20lb. Pulling requirement: 250lb.
