Surgical Technologist

Job Summary:

The Surgical Technician/Technologist provides skilled support in the surgical suite and endoscopy room, ensuring safe and efficient patient care throughout surgical procedures. This role involves preparing the operating room, maintaining sterile environments, assisting surgeons by anticipating their needs, and adhering to infection control and safety standards. The position requires knowledge of aseptic techniques, effective communication skills, and the ability to perform under stressful conditions. Prior surgical tech experience or completion of an accredited program is preferred. Responsibilities:

  • Assist the OR Circulating RN in preparing the room for surgery, including opening sterile packages and selecting appropriate equipment and supplies.
  • Set up instruments and equipment required for surgical procedures.
  • Maintain a sterile environment in the operating room throughout procedures.
  • Adhere to safety and infection control standards during patient care.
  • Assist with cleaning the surgical suite and related areas.
  • Check expiration dates and condition of supplies and equipment, ensuring stock rotation and replacement of outdated items.
  • Improve efficiency of surgeons and surgical team members.
  • Provide guidance and instruction to fellow co-workers as needed.
  • Serve on committees and participate as a professional member of the Surgical Services team.
  • Assist with patient transport to and from surgery when required.
  • Participate in continuing education, in-services, and workshops to pursue professional growth.
  • Assist with orientation and training of new employees.
  • Occasionally perform duties in the Sterile Processing Department as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Certifications:
  • BLS certification (AHA) required.
  • Two years of surgical technician experience preferred or completion of an accredited surgical tech program.
  • Knowledge of aseptic technique and infection control principles.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals.
  • Ability to perform under highly stressful situations.
  • Effective computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook) and ability to learn new software.
  • High degree of confidentiality and professionalism in handling sensitive situations.
  • Good hearing ability.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
  • Certification by the Association of Surgical Technologists preferred.
  • Experience in the majority of surgical services provided at the facility.
Special Considerations:
  • Call duty is required.
  • Must be able to anticipate surgeon and patient needs in a fast-paced surgical environment.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary surgical team.
Scheduling:
  • 10-hour day shifts from 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
