Specialist Engineer Gas

Can be filled as an Associate Specialist, Engineering Gas or Specialist, Engineering Gas depending on the candidate knowledge, skills, and abilities

** JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE **

Delta Utilities is seeking a Specialist, Engineering Gas to create basic and intermediate natural gas distribution and transmission system designs. Manages small and medium-sized projects from design through completion including preparation of plans, specifications, permits and contracts. Designs new or relocation pipe facilities and issue orders on natural gas distribution facilities for subdivisions, system improvements, and public improvement projects. Works under the close supervision and direction of an engineer, or engineering manager.

** ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS **

• Designs basic and intermediate gas distribution facilities and associated support systems including cathodic protection.
• Prepares long range capacity piping plans, easements and permits, bid packages and contracts, relocation and letter agreements, redline/greenline proposals, regulatory proposals for service area certification, and main replacement program documentation packets.
• Prepares cost estimates, material specifications and schedules, system capacity and pressure study modeling and analyses.
• Prepares and submits construction drawings for facilities.
• Prepares economic feasibility studies and makes customer contribution recommendations for new loads and system replacement work.
• Prepares presentations for customers and management.
• Manages deadlines to complete projects to time and budget.
• Coordinates efforts with customers, and government agencies.
• Provides design support to local gas operations.
• Prepares operational procedures to complete projects. Communicates with district employees when necessary where corrections need to be made or assisting them with a problem.

** MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS **

Minimum education required of the position

• Requires a high school education or the equivalent knowledge of English, basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and calculation of fractions and/or percentages), grammar, spelling and punctuation.

Minimum experience required of the position

• Associate Specialist, Engineering Gas: up to 2 years’ experience in construction, utility operations, utility support roles, or related industry experience.
• S pecialist, Engineering Gas : 5 years’ experience in construction, utility operations, utility support roles, or related industry experience.

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position

• Able to perform other job-related duties as assigned within your scope of responsibilities.
• Able to comprehend, document, calculate, visualize, and analyze.
• Within 6 months after employment, be able to demonstrate working knowledge of company safety rules.
• Acquire the ability to identify abnormal operating conditions.
• Must have the ability to acquire and maintain skills required as technology evolves (e.g., accessing electronic mapping information, collecting and interpreting electronic pipe location and leak detection information, etc.).
• Able to communicate and interact with all levels of management and associates and perform well in a team environment.
• Able to represent company in a professional manner in all matters such as business etiquette and interactions in meetings with both private and public entities and officials.
• Able to cultivate relationships and partner with business and community contacts to achieve business results.
• Able to collaborate across functional boundaries to improve business processes.
• Able to use PC software proficiently, including word processing, presentation tools, and spreadsheet programs.
• Able to learn and use ArcGIS, Hydraulic Modeling Software, AutoCAD, and other engineering related programs, as required.
• Able to motivate self, accomplish tasks, and achieve goals with minimal supervision, including self-directed learning.
• Able to identify solutions to problems with creativity and innovative thinking.
• Able to demonstrate effective project management and time management to meet project deadlines and remain within budget.
• Able to multi-task and manage several projects or activities at one time.
• Able to use initiative, good judgment, and tact to complete assigned tasks.
• Able to apply extensive knowledge of company policies and procedures and DOT CFR 192 regulations.
• Able to make sound decisions based on engineering and operational principles and company policies.
• Able to demonstrate commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the company’s Ethics and Compliance Code of Conduct, and other company policies and procedures and do so consistently; take all required training courses and do so timely.
• Able to consistently demonstrate respect for all individuals and adhere to the company’s values and business practices.

• Must provide and maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record

** Physical Requirements **

• Able to demonstrate and apply excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop.
• Able to operate a copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone, and other miscellaneous office equipment.
• Able to exert in excess of 30 lb of force occasionally and in excess of 10 lb of force frequently to move objects.
• Ability to detect natural gas odor.
• Able to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
• Able to operate a motor vehicle for multiple-hour trips, including the ability to enter and exit vehicle unassisted.
• Able to wear and operate personal protective equipment, such as respirator, safety glasses, hard hat, gloves, protective footwear, and earplugs daily.

• Able to be included in random drug screen pool required for DOT drivers and DOT safety sensitive positions.
• May be required to remain in the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned by the company to aide in restoration efforts
