Job Title: Licensed Trades Instructor Job Title: K28A Department/Area: Skills Center FLSA Classification Exempt Payband 13 Summary Provide Licensed Trades instruction and supervision of students in an open entry/controlled exit career and technology training system, with emphasis on tracking training hours toward successful completion of the journeyman's exam. Instruction is delivered in a competency based blended learning environment that integrates academics, life and employability skills, and career and technology education within a correctional environment. Education and Experience Required High school diploma or equivalency. Five years' successful experience in a Licensed Trade-related field required. Professional licensed credential (HVAC or Electrical). Preferred High-quality instructional skills, technical knowledge, teamwork, and effective communication skills. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide high-quality career and technology instruction in accordance with effective teaching criteria to meet individual student needs. Maintain compliance with all applicable American Correctional Association standards. Maintain compliance with the program quality standards set forth by the State Board of Career and Technology Education. Maintain an accurate daily tool caustic log and accurately perform scheduled equipment inventory verification process. Ensure safety and security of all areas in compliance with Department of Corrections regulations and all appropriate state and federal guidelines. Participate in professional development activities as prescribed by the Skills Centers administration. Incorporate employability skills training into the integrated curriculum system. Develop business and industry relationships to identify skill sets and employment markets with high-wage employment opportunities. Maintain and document contact information with graduates following their releases from DOC custody. Place students in training-related programs or other high-wage employment opportunities. Accurately prepare, maintain, and submit all required Skills Centers School System information management system data and other required reports in a timely manner. Initiate requisitions for tools, equipment, instructional supplies, and curriculum materials necessary for instruction. Monitor student progress on life success plans. Identify and certify existing student competencies. Ensure course outcomes and individual student performances are maintained at acceptable levels. Provide mentoring and assistance to peers and other instructional staff. Communicate issues affecting delivery of education, training, and student success to appropriate Skills Centers School staff members. Maintain professional work ethics to include appearance, management of time and leave, positive attitude and working relationships. Salary and Benefits $56,985.95 - $63,421.34 The state provides a benefit allowance to help you pay for insurance premiums which include health, dental, life, and disability insurance. Communication Skills Requires ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, financial reports and legal documents, as necessary. Write reports, business correspondence and procedural manuals. Effectively present information and respond to questions for groups of supervisors, customers, and the public. Communicate technical concepts and thoughts to students and management. Communicate with a diverse population. Mathematical Skills Apply moderately complex mathematical equations as applicable. (For example: calculating discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and volume, and applying concepts of basic algebra and geometry) Reasoning Skills Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and find solutions to several abstract and concrete variables. License, Certificates, Registrations Employee must qualify for CareerTech Skill Center Accreditation (CTSC) Provisional Level I Trade and Industrial Education Certification and is required to possess a professional licensed credential (HVAC or Electrical) or pass the trade appropriate NOCTI test to receive CTSC Accreditation II within the first two years of employment. Following the CTSC Accreditation II, CEUs including Industry Visits and Professional Development must be completed each year until CTSC Accreditation II Certification requirements are satisfied. Accreditation status must be maintained. Special Skills and Abilities Efficiently operate a computer. Utilize database management, word processing, and other software used by the school system. Physical Demands Must be physically able to perform tasks associated with instruction and related activities for the specific industry they were hired to teach. Work Environment Position based at Jess Dunn Correctional Center, Taft, OK. Job functions will be performed within a correctional environment, working with incarcerated individuals. May be exposed to hazards related to the occupations being taught at the sites. May require traveling, including some overnight stays. Entry and exit from the workplace may be controlled by correctional facility. May require moving about extended distances in all weather conditions. May be exposed to caustic chemicals designed for performing occupational tasks or facility operation or cleaning. Hiring is contingent upon successful completion of background check.
