MBTA Transit Ambassadors

Salary and Shift Salary: $21.74 per hour AM Shift: 6:00 AM - 2:00 PM, Full‑time Part‑time Shift: 2:00 PM - 12:00 AM, Full‑time, Part‑time Union Information This position is part of Teamsters Local 25. MBTA Transit Ambassadors are members of the Union and are covered under the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Job Responsibilities MBTA Transit Ambassadors are responsible for the safety of riders. Due to the serious nature of the job, we require a full 13‑panel drug screen (this includes marijuana) as a part of our hiring process. Maintains high visibility in the specified areas, most commonly station entrances and exits to maximize engagement with riders and continually offer greetings to the public. Proactively offers assistance with navigation on how to navigate the MBTA transit system and offers directions to destinations or instructions on fare payment/ticket use. Assists persons with disabilities by assisting in the development of the bridge plate for wheelchairs or other mobility devices while being kind, courteous and customer‑facing. Uses knowledge of transit system to communicate to ridership about parking information, transit schedules, payment options, and maintains complete knowledge of the MBTA transit system and offers directions to destinations or instructions on fare payment options. Actively reports unwanted behaviors, such as smoking, loitering, disorderly conduct, and any criminal activities or other situations deemed unsafe to riders and reports to transit police and local authorities via established communication methods. Serves as a deterrent while circulating through assigned platform to deter unwanted activity through a visible uniformed presence. Maintains a friendly and positive environment in full compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and overall Block‑by‑Block standards of professionalism. Responds to emergency situations following outlined protocol: front‑line responders will sound the alarm for the transit police, and reports all activities through usage of a smart device on station iPad, client phone, and radio. Qualifications Age/Education/Experience: Must have at least one year experience in hospitality or customer service. Must be at least 18 years old. Must have High School Diploma or GED. Physical abilities: Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to speak, read, and write the English language in order to create basic reports. Must have the physical capacity to stand and walk continuously during an eight‑hour and ten‑hour shift with normal breaks (e.g., two fifteen‑minute breaks, and one thirty‑minute meal break). Must be able to work in station platforms in all conditions with provided inclement weather gear.
